Good grief this show was horrable

Did anybody see this bloddy show? it's horrable! But then agian....so was the movie. Poor fantastic four. one of the best comics in history, but the media just spits at it.

reply

I thought the episode was okay. I mean, it looks pretty, and the voices could use some work, but I think it has potential. I really enjoyed the part at the end with the Supreme Kree, or whatever that was, complete with Kirby dots. I can't say I'm particularly fond of the costumes, though.
I'm also convinced that this episode was not meant to be the first. Why they would do that, who knows.

I'm not going to give up on this show yet, I'm going to see one or two more episodes first.

But Good Lord, this episode was terrible. It was completely predictable, and similar plots have been used in JLU and X-Men: TAS (making it unoriginal). Also, what's up with Susan here? She like has PMS or something. Jesus girl, can't you see Reed it working on it? Why all the anger?

reply

It seemed like the memories they showed Sue and Ben have were clips from previous episodes. But still, I don't see why a network would choose a talk heavy episode instead of one where the FF throw down with Doc Doom. It kind of defies expectation.

reply

im going to give it a chance too...but this 1 was pretty crappy

reply

Yea i thought the episode sucked and was predictable. I was looking forward to a battle with ronan but there wasnt one. If this show is going to last they need more action. I wont give up yet i want to see a hulk battle

reply

what was up with the mouths moving even when someone wasnt talking. this WAS made in america right? This isnt like some dubbed over Japanese version of a Fantastic Four cartoon is it? i think its sad how often the former big cartoon channels (Fox, Cartoon Network, and Nick a lil bit) try and bring in shows that look japanese. I myself hate anime, i think it just plain blows. That aside, I managed to sit through this cartoon tonight just thinking about the Boondocks (which I do like), and it got me through to the end. I thought some of the show was okay like when The Thing was juggling those kids, and when the entire FF got put inside that dome. But the show just looked so japanese........i mean did you see Johnny Storms hair? or for that matter the way the Things eyebrows (for lack of a better word) extended out way past his face? Did all this take place in NYC or downtown Tokyo? F uck. I had a hard time with this cartoon. like the resta yuhs, I'll watch a couple more episodes just to see if I can get used to it, but DAM!! i really hope I can dig this show, but once again, damn.

reply

If you want to see another weird version of Ben's face, check out McKone's art on the FF book.

reply

Actually, it's done by a French animation company. The same company that produces Code Lyoko in fact.

reply

I thought the show was okay. Could've done better though, especially with Sue and Reed. I'm hoping that the animation and voice acting will grow on me. I liked the scenes with Ben in the Children's Hospital, and liked his voice.

I had high hopes for this show and it was a big let down. It was boring and predictable. I also noticed the mouths moving out of sync with the vocies and that was hard to handle. Also, I am tired of the US trying to make animes. I love anime but I hate it when the US tries to make them. However, I will give the show a chance and watch it for a few more weeks. Hopefully it will get better.

All you anime bashers have to see the Animatrix' "Second Renaissance" to see what good anime looks like. It looks and feels much more like real people than most American cartoons.

There's good anime and bad anime just like theres good American Cartoons and bad ones. Every culture ahs their good and bad. Cartoons tend to get a little more mass produced for "straight-to-exportation-to-the-US" action in Japan, thus why we tend to get all their unoriginal crap over here instead of the good stuff. Now, how Dragonball Z did good, I'll never know. They took a series that was mediocre in the first place and edited the heck out of it. Ah well. It's all perspective. I also personally kind of liked the F4 movie (realizing, of course, that it was just an intro for a much better movie).

Anyway,
I think it's cowardice to go with another cultures style to try to raise your viewership. I always really loved the F4 in the mid-90's, and the animation on that one wasn't even that good. It was stiff, it was sometimes inconsistent, it was sub-G.I.Joe quality, in fact. I'd still wake up early in the morning for the Marvel Action Hour though. And I saw every episode until I could easily give you a scene by scene breakdown of every show.

I think the problem plaguing the new F4 was the characters and story, and the fact that neither were really strong. The only characters I really cared for in the episode were Ben and Reed. And Reed only because I felt sorry for him being married to this wimpy incarnation of Sue. When it got to the part where we see Ronan, I was like "Yes. This is going to be awesome after all." But they managed to make Ronan a pushover too. The comic Ronan would, for one, have had better grounds for arresting an alien being (Johnny in this case), and would have also FAR outdone himself in battle. He has a hammer powered by "THE POWER COSMIC!" for goodness sakes. Between that and Kree technology, the only one of the four that would have stood a chance is Reed, and that's only because he's the only one smart enough to figure out an enemies weak point. Johnny was WAY too juvenile, even for Johnny (and what was with the cheesy haircut), Reed had absolutely no grip on anything, which is totally not Reed, Sue had emotional issues, and the whole city seemed to like them, which also isn't entirely accurate.

Then you have the CG. It's like they made no attempt to make the CG blend with the cel animation. It was very distracting. The mouth's were also an issue. They weren't always sync'd up to the words. An attempt at faking a dubbed look I'd assume. But why try to be an over-streamlined anime unless you already knew you were going to have rating issues. Personally, I don't see why they didn't go for the same kind of look they went for with "Ultimate Avengers" or even the Avengers or Silver Surfer series' from the late 90's. The style of any one of those would have been far superior to what they're doing.

Of course, one has to also understand that the majority of large, high quality cel animation studios no longer exist. So I imagine it's alot harder finding good animators nowadays. An unfortunate truth.

Even so, if they would have gone with a poorly emulated Bruce Timm style (a'la the last season of Batman:The Animated Series after it moved from FOX to the WB) and had a really good story and kept the charaters true to themselves, they would have kept my repeat viewership. Whatever though.

I give this a season (two at best) before it goes the way of "Spider-Man Unlimited," and it's later "I'm-trying-too-hard-to-be-cool" rendition from MTV.

Just don't go knocking 'Speed Racer' and we'll be all right!
I think the appeal that comes from anime isn't in the style itself, though history will show that people are often intrigues by things that are foreign or 'exotic' to them (Probably why I'm white and find myself more attracted to non-white chicks). This plays out in the style in art and story telling with anime. It isn't neccessarily superior, in fact, when I hear people saying it is, I wonder what kind of biased acid trip they're on. Like I said before, every culture has their good and bad. I really liked the anime "Spirited Away" but didn't so much like "SteamBoy." I really liked "Final Fantasy: Advent Children" for it's incredible animation quality, but found everything else about it corny. Likewise, being american, I have a certain amount of American shows I like, and a certain amount I dislike.

And it's all perspective anyway.

Just don't go knocking 'Speed Racer' and we'll be all right!

i really did not like what i saw. i'm not a big fan of FF for starters, but even in regards to that the problems i have with this show will probably never be changed. here's my two biggest gripes...

-the art. although i'm sure it makes for some good still grabs, the animation was sorta weak, and i really didn't like how everything was drenched in some sort of "bloom" lighting.

-the voice work. this is a really personal issue, but they picked a bunch of VAs that to me, don't sound very good (the thing sounds alright though). i don't know names, but the fella that does reed richards has this voice that bothers me so much, it's like a girly yet timid voice that also sounds like they're hiding a foreign accent. blegh.

to me those are two important things, it's an action show, and if it's unappealing to the eyes and ears, i have a hard time enjoying the story.

Ben Grimm was too tall
The voices didnt really match
Johnny Storms hair was a mistake
Ben Grimms F4 Logo on the chest was a mistake
The costumes, should be the originals

Should've known someone would complain about Ben's height in here, since that's what most people did when they discussed what they hated about last year's movie....

(When people complained 'bout the height in the movie though, they thought the Thing was too short.)

I didn't mind Ben's voice in this cartoon. My ears are accostumed to hearing Chuck McCann (he voiced Ben in the 90s series) though.

yea Fan Ever! Im used to the 90s voices too, especially Reeds! Its going to take me FOREVER to get used to his because in the 90s one his voice was really really low...in this one his voice is higher...same with Johnnys...but overall I think they did the best voice casting with Ben.

Reed Richards is the asian principal from smallville (early on before he got killed) also, sue richards had a guest spot on SV too... weird

reply

I REALLY don't like how the made hulk look

to sum him up he literally looks like a dumbass, fully fledged, he looks SO stupid they messed up his hair and gave Bruce pants that are too small for him......?, the 90s cartoon nailed his look perfectly. but now, especially with the way the hulk talks normally he really seems like a retard

Reed's hair looks stupid, he's a dad the grown up, a SCIENTIST would he have his hair like that?!

Johnny's hair was changed completely.

Sue is lame, boring, always trying to contain things and failing and getting knocked out unconscious over and over and over again.

the action is really quite boring and UNinteresting, the show seems pretty slow

the thing looks stupid, they drew his head disproportionately small to his body, which just isn't common sense for a good drawing and his face looks weird

the show........i thought it would be good but i can't be bothered to watch it.
and especially since it isn't a kids comedy show, they drew these characters seriously for real, but they look really stupid, that is pretty bad

i would be bothered too watch avatar, fairly odd parents, samurai jack, megas XLR or ben 10 though

but this show sucks

To make things clear- the animators are french. Moonscoop created the series- the same company that created Code Lyoko. It's anime style but its not anime.

Yes, Cartoon Network's wants you watch more french cartoons.

I've enjoyed the show so far. I just saw the Skrulls episode which is hilarious.

Hehh, they didn't even show a new episode tonight. And they're not showing a new one next week either. I wonder if they cancelled this peice of crap already... although it wouldn't surprise me. It only took them 2 episodes of Wullan Warriors (sp?) before they cancelled it.

reply

You're being too vague in your messages. I have yet to understand your POV.

reply

OK, here goes:

The responses of the characters in this show: verbally (meaning in the tone fluctuations of thier voice) and psychologically (perhaps related to your view of extreme irony, which I don't disagree with) remind me of the absurd visual and physical reactions that are typical of anime.

I've only seen 2 or 3 episodes so far, but I think this is maybe even more successful of a marraige (viscerally) of east (anime/manga) and west (cartoon/comic book) sensibilities than Teen Titans was. (Yea that's right, I liked that show a lot.)

They didnt matter in the larger realm ...but they still mattered. Thats what struck me as pathetic.
