STUNNED. SURPRISED. DISAPPOINTED.
All of those to Jolie's performance.
I am damn stunned with her acting here, and I thought Girl, Interrupted was her best, but I was wrong. If you can convey a depth of emotion without saying a word, that's acting, and Jolie nailed it through a chain of scenes.
I am surprised that she fitted right into character. All I remember of Jolie is her promiscuous, rebellious roles (Gia, Girl Interrupted) and I am still in shock on how she portrayed Mariane Pearl. Even though I haven't really heard Pearl speak, I felt like she nailed the accent really well... REALLY REALLY WELL.
I am disappointed, frustrated, pissed and confused on why she didn't get an Oscar nod. Her performance in this is LIGHT YEARS better than Blanchett in Elizabeth: The Golden Age (with all due respect, and I am also a huge fan of hers) and Ellen Page in Juno (A huge ball of confusion). I guess it was a huge mistake by the Academy.
