Such a horrible title

Did anyone else found the title of this film incredibly corny and old-fashioned?

I don't want to appear infantile but I was watching this and my flatmate walked in and asked me what I was watching and even though I was at the time swept by the events of the film I couldn't help but giggle when I told him the title.

---I don't know enough to be incompetent.---

I have 'a mighty heart' and it was crushed. Do you find that hilarious?

The Film was amazing, powerful, and flawless. I thought the title was fine. Apparently it is only you that finds this true heart wrenching story and the title, funny.

its named after the memoir which was made by the widow

I'd have to agree that it's not a great title. It does tend to come off corny, which is unfortunate considering the story is so powerful.

The French translation 'Un coeur invaincu' is a subtle change that already sounds much better (translates more as a heart 'unbeaten' or 'unvanquished'). That would still be a clunky English title, but I find it better than 'A Mighty Heart' as it suggests conflict and strength rather than simple invincibility. Just my opinion.

Sorry you've already gotten slammed by some commenters quick to insult & slow to debate here! Your post asks a valid question, and you're certainly not alone in your opinion.

Excellent post! Could not agree with you more.

I think "Unvanquished Heart" is a cool title.

I took a double check to make sure it wasn't "A Mighty Wind". You could make a better translation for "Un coeur invaincu", for example "The Invincible Spirit", though even that doesn't much address the real issue of the film.

what is so horrible abt it?? its a pity tht u culdnt understand such a tragic movie like this...

The tile is not so much horrible as wrong. Based on a personal account the film is strangley impersonal. It's not a character study or even really about matters of the heart, but a jittery police procedural.

Accent and hair=Jolie's performance.

And true to your name devilindisguise, your reference to "such a tragic movie like this..." is correct, though not in the way you might have intended. It's a mighty mess!

Too late. You're infantile.

Yep, I have to agree with this. "A Mighty Heart" is the kind of title I'd expect on some cheesy Hollywood "noble plucky underdog triumphs against ALL the odds over big-time arrogant douchebags" sports movie, probably starring someone like Kevin Costner or Mark Wahlberg.

I know that it's the title of the memoir it's based on, but PLENTY of films in the past have changed their names from the source material to something more appropriate.

Honestly, if I was perusing some films and trying to decide which one to buy/rent/watch (and I wasn't aware of this film's actual content), the title alone would be enough for me to completely skip it, and so I'd miss out on a great film.

I'm prepared to concede that that's probably more my problem than the film's, though...
