A Love Letter to 'Boggy Creek'

This film is suffused with references to the 'Creek,' from the very beginning, when its "Greek Productions" logo uses 'Boggy Creek's' "Cinema Shares International" music. What amounts to quotes from 'Boggy Creek' occur some six or more times, though slightly paraphrased, and there is even a throwaway reference to the DVD company that released an edition of 'Boggy Creek,' "Hen's Tooth." Characters have names in common with 'Boggy Creek,' like Crabtree, Pierce, Herb, and Vern.

Although the ending took me by surprise, on the whole I enjoyed it very much.

Was there a bottle tree? I didn't notice.

Yeah you have to look close but it's at the front of the still scene with Earl the moonshiner. Wasn't it fun picking all the references out?

I am not as familiar, frame-per-frame, with Texas Chainsaw Massacre as I am with Boggy Creek, but my brother observed that the Rogers' dining room is laid out in the same style, shown from the same point-of-view, as the Sawyers'.

The way Mario is seized and carried out of the house is very like Chainsaw Massacre.

I also noticed similarities to the layout of the opening credits in TCM - albeit small comparisons - and the Wild Man's lair reveal reminded me a lot of the "chicken room." I'm sure if I really did a side by side comparison I'd notice more. :)
