Loes Luca is miscast

In this series Loes Luca (Dora) competes with Georgina Verbaan (Lena) for the attention of a man. In real life she wouldn't stand a chance. Any man would chose the young, beautiful and sexy Georgina over the fiftysomething Loes, who may be funny, but sexy and beautiful aren't the words to describe her. The original Dora was 20 years younger and the age difference with Lena was about 10. Now the age difference is 26 years.

The writer immediatly wanted Loes Luca for the part of Dora, but this was an uninspired choice fuelled by sheer laziness. There must be funny, goodlooking thirtysomething actresses out there, won't they?

I don't agree at all. It's true that the age difference between Adèle Bloemendaal and Willeke van Ammelrooy is much smaller than that between Loes Luca and Georgina Verbaan, but what makes you think Kootje couldn't fall for Doortje instead of Lena?

It is clear from the start of the series that Kootje and Doortje belong together, but that Kootje is a bit of a commitment phobic and never really dares to express his love for Doortje. The character of Lena is just thrown in to add a bit of tension, but we all know Doortje is the one Kootje should be with.

Anyway, Lena is only flirting with Kootje (as she is always flirting with everyone), but Doortje actually loves him. I think Loes Luca is great in this series, as is the rest of the cast.

By the way, it is rather shallow to assume that men always go for younger women. And Pierre Bokma is only a few years younger than Loes Luca, so even agewise Kootje and Doortje are the better match.

"Miscast" implies that the actor is wrong for the part-- you had me worried for a minute! Loes Luca has a solid career of singing and character acting, and so is great in this role. If there was a problem with an age difference with her and her "foil", it would be the casting of Lena that would be the bad fit.

Real relationships are not beauty contests: there are about a thousand points one consciously or subconsciously evaluates in a potential mate, and of course most are unaware of it, but it certainly does not rest on looks.

(I must remind you of a real-life famous couple, the woman originally a lover, later a wife, who captivated a crown prince despite his younger and objectively prettier wife.)

Lena's youth could also be a drawback, especially if Kootje has a paternal affect towards her. He does have a daughter after all.

I really can't see what is attractive about Lena's voice, constant smoking, skeletal body type, hideous wigs, constant flirting and unemployment. She seems drawn to men more her age anyway. Aantrekkingskracht gaat verder dan de oppervlakkig.
