Absolute Bollocks
This was crap. The acting was bad, the dialogue was bad, everything about it was just bad. (This is only my opinion, of course).

shareI thought it was quite good, if not as good as the novel upon which it was based. Although this is only my opinion, too.
shareOne thing nobody has ever been able to explain to me is how did Antoinette ever become Bertha?
BTW, I hated the book with a passion. Thought it was colossally stupid. And I love Jane Eyre.
IIRC, in the book WSS, Rochester started calling her Bertha because it seemed more like a proper English name to him.
shareRochester is repelled by her Creole identity, and as a way of both wiping that out, depersonalising Antoinette herself, and stamping his 'colonial' authority on her and this land he finds so disconcerting, he gives her the name Bertha. It is an act of cruelty and fear, and also the beginning of her own 'first death', which she describes people like her mother suffering, in which their personality and identity is destroyed. Antoinette Cosway is the young woman she originally was; Bertha Mason is the monster that Rochester casts her as and creates.
In Jane Eyre he is the victim, in WSS she is the victim. So if you love one, you will hate the other in my opinion. I will alway love Jane Eyre so you see which one I perfer.
