I accidentally watched this first, and house on haunted hill second.
This has a better story line and an actual 'bad guy'. In the first the bad guy is a puff of smoke. It was ridiculous.
The only thing the original had was the premise and the actors
Return to House on Haunted Hill wasn't much more than the death scenes.
House at least had some humor, great acting, and scares that didn't rely on somebody being pulled apart (e.g. the ghosts on the camera, Price's whole crazy sequence)
The remake was WAY better than this
