i hate pal and i hate limited release

why am i forced to go underground to see these movies

The weird thing is I already watched it on DVD (legally from video store) a few months ago and now I'm seeing it as coming soon to theaters. Anyone else know if country of residence has anything to do with it, although I'm in Canada and I would have thought the Americans got it at the same time. Guess not always, eh?

I have nothing to say.

This has to do with distribution, which can be a pain-in-the-ass most of the times and sometimes, it´s just easier to get your movie straight-to-DVD, rather than to wait for a theatrical release. If you look at the release year (2006) it´s even stranger it´s coming out 2 years later in the cinemas, but sometimes, that´s how long it takes for a small, foreign movie to get a theatrical limited release. I´m happy for Joachim though, as I am a Norwegian (and a filmmaker) myself, it´s good to see that also the small guys can make it "over seas" which is what most of us dream about..:)

Yes, it's a little strange. I just read a review of this movie on Roger Ebert's website, yet it premiered on The Movie Network in Eastern Canada on May 16th. I've found that happens from time to time where a foreign film appears in local art houses in Toronto, but The Movie Network is already playing it.

Don't worry, it's pretty tedious. If you haven't seen it, you're not missing much.

As for PAL (and region codes), you might find it useful to find a scan-converting, region-code-switchable DVD player. I got one from hkflix.com a few years ago, and I was very pleased with their service. (Others have told me their prices are on the high side, but for the player I got and the time I got it, the price was competitive. Comparison shop if their prices look too high.) Although I don't think this film is worth buying, let alone getting a special DVD player, if you want to see imported DVDs you'll find a scan-converting player useful.

It got a straight to DVD release in Canada. It was released in theatres in the UK in Sept 07 and on DVD in Feb 08 - the UK version is really good and includes the director's award winning short. Reason it took so long to come out in the US was to do with internal wranglings in Miramax apparently - it needed Scott Rudin to get them to sort out a proper release.

Oh, and it's a brilliant film.
