Very good film!

This is a stop motion animated film with no dialogue, so it’s easy to follow. That said, the story is a dark fairy tale with plenty of symbolism. It’s not too long at 70 minutes, and not a film for kids, if the title doesn’t already tell you. I currently consider it my favorite film of 2006.

For ambiance, I’d place it much close to Jan Svankmajer’s Alice, a creepy dark version of Alice in Wonderland, using puppetry and stop-motion. There’s just something inherently disturbing or poignant about puppets in cinema.

Also, try The Wolf House, a surreal paper mache / paint / stop motion film that is like a dark parable. Well worth watching, too! It’s free streaming on Tubi, too!
