Fairly Strong on the Symbolism

I just finished watching this remarkable film; and what really struck me was the amount of symbolism within it. It Even from the title - "Blood Tea and Red String", I got a strong sense that the red string was linked with Cabalistic practices.

I also spotted the checkerboard floor of the mice's residence, as well as the anthropomorphic creatures, the fleur de lis-inspired design on one of the beds of the oak dwellers, and the sun on the other two.

I'm pretty sure this work is something of an "inside joke", if you know what I mean.

Did anyone else catch the symbolism? Is there any sort of breakdown online about it?
