Sarah Lund the greatest female detective since Jane Tennyson

Sofie Gråbøl is absolutely fantastic in this role. She can easily hold her own against Helen Mirren. Totally cool. Give me more!

Agreed!

English is not my first language. Any corrections are welcome.

I agree bout Tom Wilkinson's greatness.

I love Lund's sidekick. He is a bit of a dolt, but one cannot help feeling sympathy for him. Like many of the characters in this series, his behaviour does not follow the predictable path. Tremendous acting all round!

"the greatest female detective since..."
Maybe; but what about Laure Berthaud from "Spirals" (Engrenages)?
But I'd agree, Sofie Grabol's performance is mesmerizing...

PS: it isn't exactly a wide field, is it?

Much as I enjoy "Spiral" and the lead detective, I don't think that it is in the same class. "Spiral" owes more to mainstream American television. However, I think that Laura Berthaud wears that skimpy vest very well.

I agree that the field is small, but it is very distinguished. Miss Marple could wear a Sarah Lund jumper, but I do not think that she would get away with the Laura Berthaud look.

Hermione Norris and Simone Lahbib were pretty good in Wire In The Blood and the banter etc. they had with Robson Green was so spot on.

But yeah - Helen Mirren is the Queen as far as female tv detectives go.

Really? And here’s me thinking how French it all was: the gritty feel, the settings (crumbling Napoleonic offices, grim banlieues), the incomprehensible legal system, the casual way they knock the suspects about…
And I never saw an American put such a range of meaning into the word “Ooooohhhhh!”.
Though I’d agree with you about the tight vests
And I could see Sarah Lund (and maybe even Miss Marple) pulling a gun on a colleague who got a bit too fresh on a date, but Laure was the one who actually did it, n’est ce pas?

The music, the quick zooms, the affair between cop and lawyer, the case that is usually sewn up in one episode, whilst the main story continues. Think "Hill Street Blues"

Nothing bad in that, though.

Sofie Gråbøl is a great and intelligent actress, no doubt about that, and without the luvvie element. It's difficult to know whether shw could hold her own against Helen Mirren as the latter was once a member of the RSC and has been in so many different roles.. But I'd like to see a lot more of Sofie on our screens, perhaps in some British productions. She's fluent in English..
