More Nordic Noir

After watching all 3 seasons of Bron Broen and season 1 of Forbydelson I can find myself getting hooked on Nordic Noir.

I will be progressing with season's 2 & 3 of Forbydelson shortly and have also lined up Borgen for when that's finished.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any other decent Nordic Noir tv shows? I don't mind if it's Danish or Swedish so long as it comes with subtitles.

One other question about Forbydelson, how come Season 1 was 20 episodes but the other 2 are only 10?

I'd recommend Beck http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907683/reference. It's based on the novels which pretty much started the "Nordic Noir" phenomenon, altho the stories in this series are original work for the series.

The two main stars, Perter Haber and Mikael Persbrandt, are fun to watch, Haber [who plays Beck] being more careful and responsible, Persbrandt [Beck's subordinate, Larsson], more of a hot-head and a loose cannon. The cases are intriguing, and give some idea of life in Sweden for those of us who have never been there.

The episodes--which are movie-length--are available on DVD from MHz Networks, and Amazon has also carried them, altho I don't know if they have any right now.

I first saw some when I lived in DC, on a local Maryland station, and I was immediately hooked. I have all the ones which have been released on DVD, and am looking forward to the release of the two most recent seasons so I can buy those too. Beck introduced me to Nordic Noir, and I have watched and read numerous others since then.

I've been recommended these 3 series, I haven't seen them yet, but I'm going to order them on blu-ray.

Fasandræberne (The Absent One)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3140100/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Den Fördömde (Sebastian Bergman)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1790954/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Kvinden I Buret (The Keeper of Lost Causes)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2438644/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Fasandræberne and Kvinden I Buret I read good reviews on, Den Fördömde is a mixed bag of reviews. I tend to not let reviews good or bad sway me from watching something I'm interested in, because a tv or movie watching experience is going to vary from person to person.

You are in for a treat with the next 2 series of Forbydelson, they are great, in my opinion series 3 being comparable, if not better then series 1.

From what I gathered about the next 2 series being shorter was, Sofie Gråbøl initially didn't want to do another tv series, so they had to really convince her to do the first series. She stated it took a year and a half to do series 1, with the writer literally writing the next week episode while they were filming the previously written episode.

With the success of the show in Denmark, and then in other countries, especially the UK, her schedule became more hectic so I'm sure she couldn't dedicate that much time to the show.

I am really enjoying Midnight Sun. The story isn't as good as The Killing but the scenery and culture of the Sami people adds an interesting perspective. Plus there is no night or darkness, sunlight all the time.

Thank you for this recommendation. I thought that I had seen every Scandinavian murder/mystery series but I haven't heard of this one yet! Excited. :)

Trapped which is Icelandic was broadcast in 2015 I think, and it's showing now on the Viceland network. The Lava Field (also Icelandic I think). I think you could possibly group Fortitude (on Amazon) with Nordic Noir for the setting although it veers toward X-Files at times. Maybe Wallander (I've only seen the Kenneth Branagh version).
