Watching season 1

I've heard the danish version is highly superior to the american one. I just watched the first episode and it's pretty much identical.
Is the entire first season exactly the same as the american one? I don't feel like watching the same stuff all over again.
Please don't post spoilers.

The early episodes of the US version stuck very closely to the original--altho even there, differences appeared. As the US show progressed, it veered increasingly into its own course, while sticking to the main idea--the investigation into the murder of Rosie Larson. Altho you will see events which are similar to those in the remake, large portions of the plot are different.

I loved Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman's performances in the remake, but I think Sophie Gråbøl does an amazing job in the original and is well worth watching. Also, the Danish version has its own solution, different from that devised for the remake.

So, I'd recommend watching the original. As much as I liked the US version, I think the Danish original is significantly better. By the bye, I also watched the US version first.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try then :)

You're welcome. I forgot to mention that Seasons Two and Three of the original series are completely different stories. The creators of the remake decided to do original stories in their third and fourth seasons. Once the Larsen murder investigation is completed in the first season of the original, it goes on to new cases.

Yes, I heard about that. My favorite season from the US series was season 3. Peter Sarsgaard and Elias Koteas completely blew me away, and the story was very very dark.

I liked the US Larsen case, the resolution was shocking and heartbreaking (I must confess it actually brought tears to my eyes), but I felt they stretched the season too much with red herrings and unnecessary drama.

reply

Well, I think the original is better with regards to being stretched out. It's 20 episodes, compared to the US version's 26. The second and third season's of the original only have 10 episodes each.

Yes, Sarsgaard and Koteas were very good, as usual. However, I preferred the stories in the subsequent seasons of the original over those in the remake. I think you'll like them.

Ok, so I finished danish S1. Overall I think it's better than the US first two seasons, but the resolution of the crime left so many unanswered questions and plot holes. Are they going to go back to that on S2? Explain better the killer's motivation and how he managed to do things? I thought that part needed more explanation.

reply

Glad you liked it. Unhappily, they do not return to the events of this season. The subsequent seasons each deal with different cases. As I said earlier, I preferred the stories in the later Danish seasons to those in the original--especially the last season's story. I don't want to say anymore, because I hate being spoiled myself.

That's a shame. I thought the script was very thorough and suspenseful during the entire season, too bad they've dropped the ball in the last minute.
If Nanna went to the flat only to get her passport, she was up there only for a few minutes. I don't think there would be time for Vagn to get a phone call, leave the hospital and get there in time. And how did he managed to enter the building without a key? How did he figured out which flat Nanna was in?
Supposedly he went there to discourage Nanna from going away because he knew that would break Theis and Pernille's hearts. He can't convince her, so he decides to beat her and rape her? And how did he manage to leave the flat with her without being noticed? How did he know to which car the keys he found in the flat belonged to?

Hi. Do you know how I could watch the original in the U.S.? I can't find it on any streaming service. Thanks.

reply

Sorry, I don't. It's on the brazilian catalogue of Netflix. That's how I watched it.

Thank you.
