Did anyone LOVE this film?

I simply adored this film in every way. Did anyone else?

I didn't like it at all, but if you loved this movie than I would recommend you see the original short movie of "The Red Balloon." It is much better IMO.

yeah man! it was soo good. so understated. i'm suprised there are so many negative responses here. this is IMDB! i thought everyone here appreciated good cinema.

I have to say that people don't seem to understand this film - they refer to Albert lamorisse's film as "the original". This is not a remake. It is in homage - it used the Lamorisse short as a starting point.

It's interesting that there are so many vociferous rejections of this film, yet it has a very high score on imdb and was critically acclaimed on release.

For me it is a masterpiece, nothing less and the best film of 2007. A work of art

i liked this a lot. actually, it's my favourite Hou of the 3 I saw (others were Three Times and Milennium Mambo)

Yes a work of art to be appreciated like a pile of bricks in the London Tate gallery!

I really wanted to like it, and was partly drawn towards it because of remembering seeing 'The Red Balloon' many years ago. Binoche was very good in it, and the early and middle stages were interesting - but it seemed to lose its way towards the end, so that ultimately (& sadly) it was rather disappointing.

Just saw this movie today, it was fantastic. Very well done!
The score on ehre should be MUCH MUCH higher imo

reply

I did; this is what Cinema is all about & a real masterpiece, IMO.
Gave it a 10/10 at IMDb.

Must admit; I watched it in the comfort of my own home (Rotterdam, Holland) / can smoke + drink, relax while watching/ at the local theater or arthouse I probable would be more impatient too with this film?

This was simply great. And I saw the Lamorisse short years ago, which I also liked.
I've seen many Hou's films. My favorites are The Flowers of Shanghai and Millennium Mambo.

I loved this film although I'd have a hard time explaining why. I should have been bored but instead I was entranced. I though it was a charming, realistic and intimate look at modern family life.

Exactly what I felt too. Loved it.

I really liked it. I love my films slow and meditative. It was a wonderful film and I am thankful that people create films like this.

I really tried to like this film but it seems too long and confusing. Also, I did not see the original or even know about it. What I expected was there would be a red balloon following the boy from like the start of the movie. I only continued watching it because of Juliette but I don't like her with blonde hair and looking like a crackhead...
