Simon in bed (spoiler?)

Toward the end of the movie Simon is shown coming home with Song. He appears to be upset and goes off to bed. What is going on? By then I had totally glazed over but I even went back to see if I could figure it out ... no clue.

This is not as complex as you are making it out to be. He is tierd. Probably did lots of running at school and he meerly wants to sleep. Its a beautiful and innocent moment

I think it has a meaning. Remember whenever the red balloon comes somewhere near Simon he feels tired and unable to make a move. In the beginning of the movie the red balloon came very close to him when he was in the train and even though he wanted the red balloon as we know it from the very beginning, he did not make a move and he appeared tired and unwilling. Again, when he was in bed we see that the red balloon actually came to visit him. Assuming the red balloon symbolises freedom and liveliness (it flies wherever it wants to and it is red), he is too tired to have it because he is a sad and lonely boy.

he is tired.
I liked that scene because it's the first time we see his room.

Simon has been in a long, boring movie for about two hours. Like the rest of us, he needs a nap!

I need an annoying-impatient-film-industry-costumer-posting-on-IMDb-boards filter.

He is tired not upset or lonely. At his age kids still could use a nap after a long day. Everyone him is supporative excluding the missing in action father figure in Montreal.
