The ending

I thought the ending was so sad. But i'm a little confuse why did America's character killed the guy? This movie made me feel like there was nothing anyone can do. Everything and everyone was against finding the poor guy who is completely inncent, or so i think. Plus now the dad owe debt to the top Ganster guy, so i just feel so sad after watching the movie.

She killed him because she was *working for her uncle* as she said to Jose at the hospital. He said to her (about her mother), "How are you paying for this?" And her response was "My uncle is paying for it, I am also paying for it, I work for my uncle."

Her uncle was the kidnapper. I think she was the one who picked Jose to be kidnapped. I think she picked him with the thought that his parents would get the money, and he would be able to go home without knowing she was involved. But when they didn't get the money there by noon, she and her family knew they would be killed, so she had to kill Jose.

The big twist was that the "top Gangster" guy that America's family owed money to for the guns, was also the "top Gangster" guy Jose's father went to for the ransom money.

Yeah I was a little suspicious when she said she worked for her uncle. But even if she thought Jose's family was going to be able to get the money for the ransom, why even put him in that situation. Did she really love him or was she somehow using him? If what the epilogue said was true, where a kidnapping happens every 3 hours, I'm sure they could have found a rich family to target, with which they had no emotional ties with.

Ya the Hospital scene got me wondering if she was part of it, As I thought about it more there was a scene I think in the begining maybe when the FBI agent was talking with the local cop in the car about the different gorillas operating in the country, you saw some of them standing in a field with mask on, one of them looked to be a girl you could make out the hair.

After first catching the film on TV, I decided to buy it. The director goes to great lengths to explain his vision for the film, and in particular the ending; it seems he did not want a typical "Hollywood" ending with the good guys getting there just in time to rescue the main character, and wanted to show how each character had his/her own personal tragedy to deal with (except for the main bad guy), and even chose to forego funding rather than depart from this theme. I have to say, the ending was very hard to bear, and wish that he hadn't gone to that extreme; I also wonder if it was realistic for the Luiza character to carry out Jose's execution. The writer/director implied that her main motivation in reestablishing her relationship with Jose was to set him up for this kidnapping, but I didn't get this impression from watching her character interact with his. Oh well..is it too late for an alternate ending for those of us who have trouble with so much unhappiness?

The ending was so sad. I didn't get the feeling that she picked out Jose for her uncle, I think she was just doing what she had to do. It was so sad because I could see throughout the movie that both of them had their old feelings coming back.

"Could've been worse. Remember those birds she set on me?"
