FEWER! 10 Items or FEWER!!!!

Come on! Don't TV writers go to college and learn grammer?

reply

Um...it's just a tv show. Does it really matter?

reply

The show is named after the 10 items or less line at groccery stores. If it was 10 items or fewer you wouldnt catch the joke.

"10 Items or Less kinda rhymes."

Um, no it doesn't.

Did you learn grammar? You can't even spell the damned word.

Good job, boys and girls! You all get a gold star now!

I am personally delighted to see this thread.
It makes me feel (a little) better.
Thanks everyone

LOL

How about retitling the Show
"A certain amount of Items amounting to but not exceeding 10 items of course not including the individual products in each packaging for instant a dozen eggs will be classified as 1 item but 5 cans of say baked beans shall be counted as 5 items whereas the amount of beans in each can is irrelivant"

Although thinking about it now this title might be just a little misleading for some people

"And so, the items shall be counted. And the items shall not exceed 10. 1 is acceptable, as is 2 and 3. 4 and 5 can be used, and may be proceeded by 6. 7, 8, and 9 are able to be used, as is 10. 11 shall not be counted, nor shall the numbers 12 or 13. 14 is right out."

oh, come on! we all know he meant KELSEY grammer! see, he's working on a new sitcom called "learn grammer," and... it's...

looks like i've already exhausted all the possibilities of that joke. so, hmm... one of the guys in this show looks like morgan spurlock. the end.

grocery stores are notorious for bad spelling and grammar anyway. you should try walking up and down the isles and reading the "specials" signs one of these days. sometimes i think it's the people who work there and not the food on sale that's special! lololol

reply

I think this thread is funny because the grocery store in my town the express lane says "12 items or fewer." Actually, my english teacher in high school told me that she was the one who influenced them to change it because she knew the manger of the supermarket. It originally said 12 items or less but we all know that less refers to things that can't be counted!!

BOO to the CW for not renewing Everwood!!! Down with 7th Heaven!!

I think "10 Items or Less" sounds better than "10 Items or Fewer"...

Yes, I know...shoot me for being grammatically incorrect, but hey...it just sounds better! I think the producers would laugh if they logged on here and saw everyone fighting about this. But hey...we all need something to fight about while we're waiting for the premiere.

reply

I would clear my schedule for a TV show called "10 Items or Frewer" actually. Matt Frewer's hilarious.

reply

The manger of the supermarket. They have their own manger? Cute!! Must be popular at Christmas time!!

By the way, English is spelt with a capital "E" :-)

reply

"walk up and down the isles" - is this a grocery store in Hawaii? ;)

We do have to laugh at ourselves and how many errors are in this thread.

Just a thought - perhaps it's a play with words, because the main character's name is Leslie Pool, and Les is short for Leslie.

The marriage was built to last.
But, their house was built TOO SMALL!

"This is NOT awesome!"

reply

well if they would have had it say 10 items or fewer then we would have said "well that sounds better than 10 items or less" because we are used to hearing it and seeing it. thats what i think...

THANK YOU!!!!

Everytime I see the commercial I want to kill someone.
I don't care if it's the name of a show.

USE PROPER GRAMMAR!!!

reply

the "or less" is considered a figure of speech, while not grammatically correct, it is accepted in spoken grammar by many modern grammarians. There is a difference between what is acceptable in written and spoken language. Furthermore, this website is about movies; the grammar police can hang out at dictionary.com or have a conniption over the ridiculous grammatical errors at wikipedia.org.

There are others like me that are bothered by this!! I always point out things like this to my non-English major friends...and they just roll their eyes. well, there are rules out there for everything else...but apparently if it has to do with English, "it's no big deal". I cringe when I see the commercials for this damn show!

reply

Honestly.. get over it. Write a letter to the producer, or become a "grammarian" and publish a book that no one will buy.

reply

Ironically, I misspelled the word grammar in my original post!

reply

For the sake of Pete! As alapm89 said...

Get over it!

Honestly, for people to continually obsess about something as trivial as this is just ridiculous! I'm sure you could find something else to obsess over.

reply

...like who gets to hold the remote when "10 Items Fewer" comes on.

reply

You might want to check the use of "ironically" as well.
