Curiousity

To Whom it may concern,

I am not writing this to specifically flame and/or bother anyone. Reading the post made me think that D. Stevens has no knowledge about the subject which he wrote a movie for, (if the summary is any indication) that is. I will probably spend my money to see this film, when it either comes out on DVD or ends up in my local theatre. Personally speaking, I am involved in the lifestyle known as BDSM; and if this movie proves to be satirical then let it be so. However, if it proves to be dogmatic, I will probably find myself saddened and undoubtedly both slided and offended.
It is mentioned in the post that, "Insiders" refer to such agreements as "TPE" and that there is some kind of Global Slave Market. Allow me to please enlighten you, dear reader on these two items at first hand. There are no insiders, and the term TPE refers to something known in BDSM as Total Power Exchange; which refers to one trusting another enough to have total control over them during a relationship 24/7. May I note here dear reader that this is CONSENSUAL, not forced and is certainly not binding. As to the GSM no such market exists, not in BDSM or any other place.
The fact that someone would seek out another human being and pay them to replace a Dog, in a sexual/slave or "Pet" oriented manner as displayed in this movie is simply appalling and disgusting-and is in no way affiliated with the BDSM lifestyle. I'm going to cite the post itself, and clear a few things up for you now.

"This exploration of power, trust and captivity were inspired by the prevalence of more-or-less consensual slave/master related lifestyles as well as the existence of global systemic servitude that allows for cheap labor, sex slaves, organ sales etc."

Let's look at the terms used here, "prevalence" and "more-or-less consensual slave/master lifestyles" suggests that this was spoken flippantly and with disdain for those who practice such. This speaks volumes on the mentality (or lack there of) the person and idea behind this film. This portion of the post also attempts to tie the BDSM lifestyle with the underground market of human trafficking-I can tell you right now, these two things are totally different, and have no affiliation with one another whatsoever.
The fact that D Stevens would cite specifically; slave labor, forced sexual slavery, and organ sales speaks volumes about his lack of knowledge into the subject. It is truly appalling to see something this dogmatic folks and all it will really do is fuel the prejudice the public, and "God Fearing Bible Thumpers" have for those who practice the BDSM lifestyle. To even compare the BDSM Lifestyle and Human Trafficking, is sickening to me; and most likely every other law abiding citizen out there who practices the BDSM lifestyle. Allow me to cite this "brilliant" piece of cinematography once more.

"There are 11 companies in the US and the UK that makes human pet cages, human auctions where the purchaser can completes the transaction through "Pay Pal", can be found throughout the Internet and slave marking listings such as branding, piercing, tagging and what insiders refer to as TPE [Total Power Exchange] for consensual slaves number in the thousands on the Internet. The GSM is modeled upon and functions much the same way as the NYSE or NASDAQ but without the pretense of regulation and with humans as commodities."

D Stevens was wrong, there are more companies out there that make Collars, Leashes, Leather Restraints, Cages, Bondage Equipment, and other things for the BDSM lifestyle. Why do they do this you may ask? Because my dear reader, people out there will buy such Implements and use them in Safe, Sane, and Consensual BDSM Play. They make pretty good money too doing that; more than those who are prejudiced against them and would seek to call them "Obscene" and "Mentally Ill". Branding or Scarification and Piercing have been around for ages; after all women pierce their ears and tongues do they not? Another thing our dear friend D Stevens is wrong about is that we as CONSENSUAL Masters and Slaves don't number in the thousands, my dear reader we number in the tens of millions and yes, do have opinions and feelings.
Feel free to judge me as you will, dear reader; I leave that decision up to you. I just felt the need, and duty to clear up a few things that I saw as grave misappropriations, and prejudices that will only end up harming rather than doing any real good. It is clear to me, through the summary of this movie, that either D Stevens and the production staff, didn't do their research or just didn't care.

NOTE: I would also like to note that the information I cited here from the IMDB website is copyrighted and trademarked it's respective owners and holders.

When I watched the trailer at thepetmovie.com I received the impression that the director supported consensual power exchange, and the human slavery market was introduced as contrast to a more idealized BDSM relationship.

Granted, the first half of the trailer gave the impression of a lower budget "Secretary", while the slavery plot turned it into some sort of NC-17 Dolph Lundgren action film....

I'll hold off on deciding whether to see it until a couple reviews come in.

Wow, deadlyraptor, I think you just owned them. Hah.

I hope this would be a decent one, but then again, it's only rated 5.8.

The previous reviewer seems to have no concept or depth or understanding about the movie in my opinion.The movie to me was about power and the dynamics of power exchange.

It is about trust and loyalty and about the exploitation of many of us who are on the lower rung of the economic latter. Many of us are in fact slaves today, be it economic, domestic, labor, sexual or in some cases chattel. Wake up!

The movie seriously moved me for I saw myself in it at various times throughout my life. I cried at the end and felt the need to express myself when I read this reviewers lack of seeing the complexities of this film. It has had an impact on me in a number of ways. But in the end it was a MOVIE. However saying that seems too simple. An exceptional movie that I have watched with others several times now. It has become a topic.

The reviewer knows ALL obviously and because it is a different lifestyle than the reviewer has seen (people being trained as puppy play) but I certainly have a bit more knowlege -- nothing is warmer to me than a leash on me with someone I can trust holding the other end.

The movie is not about BDSM - it is about a relationship that the reviewer obviously is judgmental about because it does not fit his image of his particular BDSM cliche. I guess in his mind if it does not fit a little narrow self portrait it has to be condemned.

As for the global slave market - I have never described it that way but for certain there is a global slave market. Maybe a symbol for the entire global slavery. I read about organ transplants from China that the Chinese Government has admitted to as late as two weeks ago. The Chinese even displayed a new fleet of Mobile Execution buses herald a new design on The Mobile Execution (google Chinese Mobile Executions buses and see Sky for videos showing them) that seems to roam the provinces to pick up condemned prisoners and harvest their organs for Westerners over 8,000 a year. Google the open slave markets that the British police decided to only this year. Sex slave auctions at ALL the major airports. From an article in the Guardian Newspaper June 2006 " Women are being sold off in "slave auctions" in the arrivals lounge of British airports, according to authorities desperate to crack down on the burgeoning trade in trafficking humans. The Crown Prosecution Service said foreign women were being sold as sex workers as soon as they arrived, and police have been appealing to men who frequent brothels to contact them in confidence if they believe"

Maybe the reviewer thinks that all is cozy in this fairyland. Certainly that is his right his right but this film should be reviewed by each person and judged on its own. It shows that people can have a healthy alternative lifestyle in the mist of greed and exploitation and that maybe we should all find out where we are in the power dynamics and decide just how free we are and how free we want to be.

In no way did I think it condemned consensual slavery nor and love and bond between two people but it did show outside of that relationship the world is not as healthy as it seems. It can open some eyes we need more movies that make people think.

naturalslv, raptor's point was not that such slave markets don't exist, but that to equate them with the BDSM lifestyle is despicable and insulting to everyone who practices it. he wasn't necessarily badmouthing the movie itself, as you can always interpret it how you like... and I do find it sub par... but rather the director's ignorant comments, which give you an insight into his intentions with this movie.

human beings are trafficked in the world but not as "BDSM slaves". one isn't forced to become a **BDSM** slave, BDSM is SS&C. the major problem is girls forced to become prostitutes, and it does not arise or stem from the BDSM lifestyle but rather from kidnappings, drug addiction, and those that make a bad choice because of economic hopelessness and then find themselves stuck in another country with no money and no choice anymore. it has nothing to do with BDSM, and the director of this movie needs to rescind his summary or get a new job.

Thank you SO much for posting this. So far, I've been sickened by the film and by the people who take it as a representation of the BDSM lifestyle. This clearly and coherently got across the *correct* point.

To Whom It Should Concern...

With no references what-so-ever to the "BDSM world" and its followers .... I would just like to use this as an example of what almost ALWAYS happens when a "secret" world is uncovered in a movie, newspaper etc.

It gets:
* Exagerated
* pulled out of proportion
* distorted
* twisted
* discoloured
* --- insert your favourite word here ---

There is not a conspiracy to do this. The story just gets better/more interesting in the eyes of the filmmaker.

For a filmmaker - likeness to the real world is NOT a neccesity - only a coincidence.

Sorry 'bout the spelling.

I understand how everyone feels about this particular subject (well, the individuals that took the time to post their thoughts and feelings, anyway) but you have to understand something: This movie is NOT a "DOCUMENTARY" in any way. It's simply FICTION and hasn't ever tried to pass itself off as anything other than fiction.

The "GSM" (not to mention a few other things) that this movie refers to was most likely created by the author in an attempt to draw a larger audience base. Pathetic attempts to "thicken" a plot in order to make more money happen daily. Without this practice, the demographic for this particular film would only be appealing to people that are either involved in, or have some interest in the BDSM lifestyle. Although there is a large number of people who practice this type of living, the author would make a lot more money by appealing to a wider audience base.

In short, please don't take this "movie" (I use this term loosely) personally

I was bothered by the Electric Dog Collar.

Electric dog collar is dangerous.

Electric dog collar for pets are NOT to be used on people. The voltage is very high because dogs have thicker skin and fur.

Pls do NOT copy that in real life.

PS: Just incase some ppl are wondering... BDSMers dont sell organs... nor buy and sell people.

*sighs* another movie that gives BDSM a bad name.
