Trailer

The official site (click)

www.thepetmovie.com

has a hopeful looking QuickTime trailer, but nothing else so far.

It was shown in France 18 May 2006 (Cannes Film Market).

The sole writer and director D. Stevens has never written or directed anything; rather he is an experienced still photographer who seems to have written something for himself to direct. At least we could see some pretty pictures, which is a good start.

I'm hopeful about the story - that is, that there is one, with a setup, a conflict and a resolution, not just an exercise in style.

A lot will depend on the talents of the actors - who are also unknowns.

"Original music by Chris Walden" - has anyone heard anything by this guy? He has composed for some films.

I guess we just have to wait and hope for the best.

First off, do we know when and where the film will be available in the US???

Secondly, I'm rather hesitant due to the comentary on the website: While the film might look good in some places and very bad in others (just based on story and film)... the message and intent may not be what us fans of the genre are hoping for. The director seems so much more focused on the human slave trade than on the story of two people discovering each other in the life style. *shrug* But its yet to be seen until we see the film.

Christinue: "First off, do we know when and where the film will be available in the US???"

No clue. I don't know whether or when it would come to Australia either, even to alternative theatres. DVD looks to be the best chance of seeing it.

Christinue: "Secondly, I'm rather hesitant due to the commentary on the website: While the film might look good in some places and very bad in others (just based on story and film)... the message and intent may not be what us fans of the genre are hoping for."

Right. I'm interested to keep tabs on it, in case it's good, as a whole or in part. That's not at all the same thing as being confident that it will be good.

Christinue: "The director seems so much more focused on the human slave trade than on the story of two people discovering each other in the life style."

In the short Behind The Secretary on the DVD of Secretary (2002), director Steven Shainberg made it clear that "he gets it," completely. And he was on the same wavelength with the writer, as their commentary to the movie makes clear. That's why the movie is so good. All the other great talents in the movie were adding to the realisation of a vision that was sympathetic and correct from the start.

Director D. Stevens does not give that kind of good impression at all. (And the comments by producer Jeanniel Neil are if anything worse.)

Christinue: "*shrug* But its yet to be seen until we see the film."

That's it, exactly.

Thanks for the links, jujie.

jujie: "I am hoping the film will show the beauty of consensual slavery and the evil of non-consensual..not just that all slavery is awful, blah, blah, blah. At any rate, the first part of the film should be enjoyable."

That seems good stuff to hope for.

I'm not sure which links jujie posted, since I'm guessing those are the posts that were deleted. But I have been dying to find more information on the movie, being of the same persona as the lead girl..

I hope that someone has some info on when it will be out, or if even...or any additional information since the web apparently has nothing that I can find... :(

Hopefully hopeful

Thanks for the info jujie! And heck, not sure it'd be worth the trip into Atlanta to see on screen. *sigh*unfortunately.

I live not far off myself, so know the woes of getting independent films into smaller southern cities. Rarrr.

...And I'm not saying the subject material isn't interesting. I'm just pointing out that the execution looks very sub-par. Like an amateur porno but with a larger budget.

It's really too bad as well, because as I said, the story itself is very thought-provoking. It just looks rather cheap and shoddily filmed.

Bad? This looks amazing!

reply

...Because I saw one for this movie called "The Pet". Seriously, my brain hurts now after hearing some of those dreadful lines.

By the way, how much are you getting paid to come on IMDB and other online forums to generate interest? We've already had one "fan" of the movie hit up our boards at literotica.com.

reply

Just means that we are different people, with different values.

Paid? I wish.

I watched the trailer with no sound ( speakers on the fritz)and I could tell the lines were horrible. One good thing her "master" did for her was get her out of that denim jumper!
