This adaptation is being repeated tonight (1st Sept) on UK BBC1. Have only see fragments of it when first aired last December so its great to have the chance to see it all now. I'm not a Matt Lucas fan at all but I have enjoyed his portrayal of Toad.

He seems to me to have based his character and mannerisms upon a goodly imitation of Boris Johnson: that *beep* Oxford SU uber-Tory, wannabe London Mayor and all-round put-on Jolly Larks What! Goshly GoodHo Fellow-well-met faked and *beep* piece of privelidged class-ridden patronising toerag of the worst type.

Have to say I didn't get that - it just struck me as the usual portrayal of Toad as he's written in the book. Terry Jones played him in pretty much the same way in the film.
