you call yourself fans....

you all call yourself fans, but all i hear is a bunch of spoiled brats. can't you just be glad that one of the greatest epics of our time is finally being recoginzed? don't you realize that if your attitude were adopted by the rest of us that nothing great would ever happen? hell, they may not have ever written the books if they knew how their "fans" would react when they tried to go to the next level. this kind of childish behavior is why most of us don't go to conventions and join your discussions. personally i revel in the fact that characters and places that i only dreamed of as a child will come to life in a new medium. let the movie come out before you talk about how it isn't something.....you are no better than a teacher who tells the "bad" kid that "you will never amount to anything."
let us all hope that this movie sparks something great. if nothing else, maybe a new generation will come to learn of the wars of the lance, or thorbardin, or of the love of a kender for a dwarf.....flint's death was the first time that a book made me cry.....why deny that to someone else?

reply

I concur, strongly.

There, their, they're do YOU understand the difference?

reply

Well said!! I completely agree!! I think we should reserve judgement until we have actually seen the finished project. I personally am looking forward to seeing it. It may be great, it may be not be, but that is not something we can decide before we see the film.

And these were also the first books to make me cry-over both Sturm and Flint. If the filmmakers bring half that emotion to the film, then I will be happy.

reply

They didn't.

reply

Wow, I never thought about that, I think when Flint died it might have been the first time a book ever made me cry too...then when Sturm died, I was like, huh, next page.

reply

how can u say that! thats horrible sturm was perhaps my favorite character next to raistlin and caramon. but hey lets look on the brightside , its coming out next month!!! anyone read about Drizzt here? hopefully they'll do a drizzt movie if DL gets a good response

reply

Drizzt was a good idea once. Until everyone read it and wanted to play a damn drow.

It all began with a stone...

reply

I prefer Jarlaxle

reply

nooooooooo - no more freaking drows! actually, no more FR. you can't run FR anymore without some prick in the player group going "that wasn't there cuz in this book this happened."
seriously, only time i have ever used the phrase "i am the DM and if i say it happens, it happens." was in a bloody underdark campaign.

reply

wow...i was exactly the same, losing flint was hard, but Sturm was like "Whatever". the movie could have been better, but I'm glad it was made.
now!...bring on the Dark elf movie, and dont screw it up like they did this!

Bruenor would totally PWN flint for the record

reply

/agree!

Kudos to you

Stop whining to the others!

reply

ITT idealist fanboys who think that Weiss and Hickman can do no wrong.

'BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

reply

Actually it's NOT being realized...it's being hacked to bits by cheap cartoonists.

Lucy Lawless and Dragonlance should NEVER been in the same sentence.

W & H I think may have dropped the ball on this one. They should have at least done it CG. They could have hired Blizzards CG department for petesakes. But that's just my opinion.

I'm sadly disappoint thus far from the stills and little animation I have seen.

Maybe some things are best left in our imagination where it can be critiqued only by ourselves.

reply

You have no idea how correct you are.

reply

moan moan. whinge whinge.

if yer don't like it, don't watch it.

stick to reading the books cause that where you'll be happy.

it isn't mandatory for anyone who's ever read the book to watch the film.

so just ignore it.

no film no matter what they do will ever match the power of your imagination so it will always fall short.

LOTR as good as it was wasn't as good as the books and never ever can be.

so if you can't deal with the film, leave it alone.

other people are excited and you should leave them to get excited.

personally i can't wait

reply

jenerik.....lest i remnind you that the lord of the rings movies started humbly as nothing more than what this dragonlance movie is right now. and look at the trilogy right now. its litterally the biggest thing since star wars, if not bigger. and we all know as fans that dragonlance , the trilogy about the heroes of the lance, in itself, is bigger than lort was story and plot wise. not only that, but the next rilogy, and the one after that, and the new one thats in between the first. lotr started of with nothing but humble beginnings at the best. someone took a chance at it and flopped miserably, now look at the series now. theyre the biggest thing since grilled cheese sandwiches. itll take a while for dragonlance to steak its claim and glory as one of the greatest book series to ever be written. all great things start out with nothing but humble beginnings, and imo, dragonlance the movie is getting a much bigger head start than the lort movies. too many people dont look beyond their noses. look towards the future. it will happen. and it will be glorious

reply

Good point, but what I would like people to understand that only retards think animation can't ever be great. Because, let's see: Titan A.E, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and pretty much all the Pixar films are great.

Only stupid little brats think an animated film is for kids and can't achieve high ratings. I mean, is it just my imagination that THE SIMPSONS MOVIE is blowing away EVERYTHING else?

reply

" dragonlance the movie is getting a much bigger head start than the lort movies. too many people dont look beyond their noses. look towards the future. it will happen. and it will be glorious"
Do please tell me how this movie, with a horrible trailer, could in any way outdo LOTR, that was one of the most anticipated movies ever?

reply

Well I do have to agree about the bit about Blizzard. They do some fantasic CG work, no one does better in my opinion. I will wait til the movie happens before I cast judgement on Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon, I do think Keifer Sutherland as Raistin is a great choice though. Too many think Jack Bauer, and forget Stand By Me, Phone Booth, etc. Maybe they did drop the ball, or maybe they finally realized that they would never get the funding they wanted to make a the movie the way they wanted, so they just went ahead and decided to do something. Maybe the animated movie will inspire someone to take the books and give them the full on treatment they deserve. Lord of the Rings was animated, and then later made into a full budgeted movie. Some people didnt like the animated, some people didn't like the live action, but both ways were tried. So even if this movie comes out and sucks, it might lead to something bigger and better in the future. Or it might end up being very good and we'll all be happy with the end result. Who knows, but casting stones at the movie before it comes out isn't going to make it better, but it might cause potential producers to decide to back off from investing serious money into a differant version down the road. I guess it comes down to negativity really doesnt add anything to the table. I'm glad we are getting something, even if it isn't exactly what I wanted.

To be honest my suspicion is that a ****load of the people here pre-criticizing the movie are in fact LOTR/Harry Potter/Forgotten Realms fans who really don't care about DL. Some of the people criticizing the movie are true DL fans but I think the majority of resistance seems to be the oldschool rivalry with the Tolkein fanbois who have been going around smug since the making of their movies. The Tolkein movies didn't get millions of dollars because everyone had been waiting with bated breath for a Tolkein movie, it was just the right things falling into place at the right time. Only Tolkein fans would argue that it was Tolkein's "vastly superior popularity" that made the movies a success; what a joke! Tolkein has been equatable with rank geekdom for decades and though many people enjoy the books, the vast majority of the people who wound up in those theater seats were just there to see a big, overhyped, big budget action movie with an all-star cast, most had NEVER touched the books.

So please, if you're a Tolkein fan... get off your high horse. I'm sure it would be amazing what Dragonlance would be on the screen with the same budget.

Dragonlance is the greatest fantasy story ever and I have waited years for it to be made into a movie, animated or not...
I have read many books which have been made into movies, and very few of them have been as good as the books, but never-the-less, it has been interesting and great to see them turned into movies.
No matter how the movie will turn out, I will never lose my love for the Dragonlance universe and always have it in my heart...

i totally agree i really love the dragonlance books i was introduced to them by my dad who read them when he was my age (11) and also look at lotr that was animated and now its an amaizing epic live action movie

reply

So your reasoning seems to be that a great book will always turn out to become a great movie? That just sounds ridiculous. As fans, our expectations should be HIGHER than the average movie-goer, not lower.

I love DL and hope the movie is a success, but no amount of unrealistic expectations would make a bad movie good. And at this point there is not much hope for a quality production.

reply

This movie needs to be canceled. From what I have seen, this is INCREDIBLY bad. If they make this low grade cartoon, it will poison the well and NOBODY WILL EVER MAKE ANOTHER ATTEMPT to turn these stories into movies. Make sure that last part sinks in.

People cite the history of the Lord of the Rings movies. What happened with the LotR was a _miracle_, and the story the movies were based upon were absolute and undisputed classics. Thats what got the LotR a second chance, and Dragonlance is not going to get that.

Now if you think I dislike Dragonlance, you couldn't be further from the truth. I am a HUGE fan of the original trilogy. They are three of the few fantasy books I like, with only Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series as company. The trilogy is GREAT, it deserves a chance at being a GREAT movie. The material and potential is there, but it is being squandered with a cartoon, it is not being taken seriously.

This cartoon may very well be the punchline of the really crappy fantasy movies being put out just to make things worse. So all things considered, Id rather they not make this cartoon AT ALL, and wait for however long it takes for someone to pick up the series and make a good live action trilogy.

For the TLDR crowd: I see it as a trade-off: terrible cartoon now or great live action trilogy ten (or less) years from now. Go with the cartoon and you will never get anything better.

reply

1) They are books!!!!
2) About dragons?!
3) How can you be so obsessed?!

reply

I would not have a problem with a low budget cartoon, I was a big fan of the D&D cartoon from the 80's. I think a retro cartoon would do this movie well. Since most fans of DL grew up in the 80's, I think they should agree.

reply

It would be great, if it had the quality of 80's cartoons, but unfortunately it falls back on bad 3Danimations (because, you know, 3D is so popular why not give it a shot even though it's ridiculous?) and horrible rendered character drawings. Just take the close-up of Tanis eyes. You know what I mean.

reply

I don't mind that they turned it into a cartoon, I am glad the series is finally being realized. But after watching the attempt I am of the mindset that they should not have even tried. The animation was not only bad, but horrible. The scene where Tasslehoff stabs the troll just amde me laugh in a sad way.

Don't feed the trolls! Ignore is there for a reason

reply

Go with the cartoon and you will never get anything better.

That is not true. The Little Mermaid was put out twice, LoTR was put out twice. There is nothing stopping anyone from doing live action in the future.

There's bad brown acid going around. You can take it with a grain of salt!

reply

I fully agree. Those that say "look at LOTR" seem to be tacitly accepting that the Bakshi animated film was no damn good...and then drawing a completely illogical connection between the Bakshi garbage and the fantastic movies by Peter Jackson. As if no live-action fantasy/sci-fi movie can be made without first putting out a horrible cartoon. Which is not true.

Maybe this cartoon will be far better than I suspect. I hope that it is. But I'm afraid that my suspicions will be confirmed, and no one will EVER make a Dragonlance movie again.

Y'all can go to hell. . .I'm goin' to Texas
