This movie is in Arabic , yes . But , very local lebanese dialect & accent .
I agree with the director about the reality . Such movies must be talked like that . But ... Do realy all the Arab world understand it . I got the feeling that Egyptions would not understand most of it . Any Arabs , here , to tell us about the Lebanese dialect in this movie .

hey i am a lebanese myself, and it's true that not all arabs have the same dialect. On the other hand, in the same way as an Irish would speak in a diffrent way then an American or an Englishmen, most arabs will understand the general meaning of a given sentence then independent local words. Plus the Lebanese used in the movie uses common Lebanese terms, not the complex local dialect, the movie's writers took notice of that as so not to confuse the arabic audience. The funny thing is that lebanese dialects diferantiate from one city to an other that we can even can be at lost as to the meaning of the words when we're talking to each other.

I am Syrian and perfectly understood it. I agree no big deal at all.
Lebanese and Syrian Arabic (maybe other ones too)dialect are quite close to Classical Arabic so I believe most Arabs can understand them. Egyptian Arabic is also understood by most as it is/was the main dialect in movies and songs.

I am an Arabic person " Bahraini" and I totally got the movie..its about Lebanese life mostly but its Arabic after all..and Im soo proud of it..
this movie shows the foreign ppl knw that we are not terroists and we all human just like them and we live, love and have a normal perfect life :)

Arabs have much exposure to each other's accents through media such as Television. So, many can understand, and emulate different dialects, almost impeccably.
As far as Arabic dialects go, I say there are three (or four, if you think Egyptian should be a group of its own) major groups.
Levantine (Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian, Jordanian) + Egyptian (It's really quite different, but close enough to lump it with the rest)
Gulf (Everything under Jordan and Iraq. Iraqi is a mix of Gulf and Levantine)
Western Accent (Everything west of Egypt. They're all different from each other but nobody from the Levant or the Gulf can understand them)
Most people from the first two groups can understand each other, the third group of dialects sounds more or less gibberish.

I have a friend from Qatar, and I told her the Arabic name for this movie was "Sukkar banat" and she thought it was hilariously cute, and that "Lebanese Arabic is seriously awesome" haha. Because apparently if you directly translate it into English it means "Sugar Girls" which is quite amusing :P So there's an example (a small one, mind you!) of dialectal differences in Arabic.

I think I can understand almost all the accents unless they are mixing so many french words with it like what is happening in Morocco and Algeria
