A movie about 2 terrible people *spoilers*

Finally got around to watching this. Was surprised it wasn't better. My biggest issue is, the two leads are terrible people. First there is Jack Nicholson, a greedy scumbag who represents everything that is wrong about hospital systems today (this is not a rant about Obamacare. If you think it is, maybe you should actually research Obamacare. Plus, this came out in 2007). Even more mind boggling, after all the discussion about the character's business practices, Nicholson's character never undergoes any transformation where he cleans up his business ethics. Yeah, I get the daughter thing but in the end, he is still Scrooge.
Next we have Freeman's character who abandons his wife and family. I can almost understand that arc but he still doesn't win any points. Maybe he earned it but the story should have been told where his wife encourages him to go. Terrible writing.
Add this to the fact that the two actors had zero chemistry and spent a huge chunk of the movie in front of an obvious green screen and you have a movie that should have been produced by and shown on the Hallmark Channel.

I think you are dead wrong and totally missed the point. These are everyday people, not saints. These people are more like the world is, the story isn't made up into a fairy tale where nice people only get sick who you feel bad for. I liked it and it was more real because of these two guys who were perfect for this film.

"These are everyday people,"

Um.. a black mechanic that 'knows everything' (can it ever be otherwise in politically correct movies?) and a super rich hospital owner?

Yeah, EVERYDAY people...

Did not care one bit about the characters. Just watched it again after seeing it in 2007, it was better in memory. This flick has worsened with age.

Yet another person who seems to have missed the point of the film. Yes, they were both selfish people in their own way but the point of the movie, as I saw it anyways, was that the selfish journey they shared together in the end ended up making them better people. They formed an unlikely but true friendship and is one was a batter man because of it. In the end Edward did reconcile with his daughter and Carter when back to his family with a renewed appreciation of his wife.
