The IMDB rating on this stuns me...

This movie was terrible, and deserves no more than a 4/10.

Agreed. 4/10 from me too.

Dialog is boring at times. Plot becomes predictable. The movie becomes overshadowed by the scenery and becomes more of a travelogue. I don't really see much chemistry between Nicholson and Freeman. Nicholson has to carry the film. The others seem to be sleepwalking.

reply

A solid 4 for sure.

reply

A solid one? The creator must be proud.

On purpose, much of the film is predictable, so as a viewer your really just rating it for surprises, not for the inevitable points that the film TELLS YOU to expect.

However, Nicholson did a fantastic job. He still has it, and that made me proud to "know him" too.

The film was great you idiot. Get over the rating. 50,000 people voted, so clearly your opinion is the minority.

Hahaha, touché.

Far from terrible, it was lovely, poignant. It was a bit predictable but not to the point that it wasn't enjoyable. Any rating below a 6 is ridiculous. How can any sane person give Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson a rating below that?

reply

I totally agree.

It's a great 'feel good' movie to make you warm and happy. Good for a wet sunday afternoon or snuggling on the sofa etc, etc.

But, it's not for everyone. If you are looking for action or gripping complex plot, then it's not the movie for you.

reply

Yeah, I was totally expecting action and explosions from the cover...

I think the movie hits home with people who live life to the fullest and still feel like they haven't lived enough...I also think most people who rate it low just didn't get it....more than likely they are people who spend life living vicariously through films instead of leaving the couch once in awhile.

i don't know if i agree with that.

i thought the film was great and seemed like a message to people like me to get of my ass and live life a little.

i think the OP doesn't realise that this is a film for mature people (i don't mean in terms of age).

Some of us watch movies as part of a substantial mix of pursuits that comprehends all sorts of things, including physical activities. I have not seen this movie but likely will at some point, particularly given that Target is selling the widescreen for two bucks. If I don't find that is soars with the greatest movies of all time, it won't be the result of having spent a lot of time, or any time, "living vicariously through films." People can have all sorts of reactions to movies, especially those that are not knock-down great--for example, I never have heard a single person say that "Gone with the Wind" was not at least a great movie--so I may like this a lot, or some, or not much, without regard to couches or vicariousness or any other extraneous matters. If my reaction to the totality of what I have heard about this movie matches my past reactions to movies I had not seen but had heard quite a bit about, I probably will find it so-so.

reply

Personally I don't care much for Gone With the Wind. Some nice photography in spots, a few memorable lines, but basically it's a soap opera, a potboiler. So is it a great movie? Not in my book!

Okay, now you've heard it.

reply

Hey, is not that bad. True, the movie is frankly overrated but at least it boast very good performances from both Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. The storyline might be a bit too farfetched but it has its moments.

My rating: 6/10

reply

You can tell that the movie is geared towards older audiences, which tend to have predictable plot lines. Just look at Blood Work for example, maybe even Gran Torino or Rocky Balboa. I still think the performances from Nicholson and Freeman are solid and that there's some amount of chemistry going on here. The ending is a bit cheesy, but aside from that the movie doesn't get too overly sentimental. It was way better than I expected it to be.

reply

I'm a 17 year-old male, and very much enjoyed it. Very inspiring, too.

Voting a movie down because you predicted the end (which is obvious to anyone with common sense anyway) is retarded.

reply

Although I enjoyed "Bucket List" the film did have it's flaws.
Yes, it is just a story...however I could not help thinking Morgan
Freeman's family was robbed of the last days of his life. He and
Jack Nicholson were gone for an awfully long time...but it is just
a movie.

I thought the same at first but if a person is terminaly ill and they feel like they need to do something then they should be let do it.
