I have been waiting for weeks and weeks for this one to play somewhere near me!! Finally-- today I went to see it. What can I say? What a cast. An ensemble cast. Christopher, Anne-Marie, Helen- oh Helen. Helen is gold. But James. Every time I see him- I am amazed. He is so good. Brilliant actor. The best. Gripping performance. Bless you one and all. Wonderful film.
I've got to say- being a film buff, and preferring primarily old films from the 40's, 50's, this is one of my 10 favorite films of all time, and I'm not ashamed to say it. One of the most perfect films of all time.
Correction, I said top 10,but I meant top 50, anyway here are my 100 Favorite Films:

Great list stanhanuan, I have to say. Mine would be totally different, but I love a lot of the stuff you put in yours. Have you seen Atonement? My favorite film from the last decade. I still have to see The Last Station, not released here yet...
I loved it, too, although it was very difficult to watch in many ways. The scene portraying Tolstoy's death moved me to tears. It doesn't matter how much Sofya drove him crazy - they truly and completely loved one another. There's something so beautiful in their imperfect love for each other. And yes, I thought the cast was magnificent. It's wonderful to see Tolstoy's life brought to life so powerfully.
Seems like that everyone who's clever, well educated, spiritually oriented, subtle, sensitive, open minded, etc. love this film. This movie points out a lot if you can only have senses to feel and understand. Beautiful, simply beautiful.
I really loved this movie too. It wasn't just a great movie, it was also a great history lesson about Leo Tolstoy and the things he believed in. He was a truly remarkable person.
