Her red lipstick is sooo incredibly distracting.

A single mother in that era wouldn't be running around with that color of lipstick on. It's incredibly distracting while watching the movie and I think it takes away from her character as someone devastated by the loss of her son. Really? A woman in her position wouldn't have worn that shade.

I don't know how they could have picked it.

Not as distracting as her small frame, she was horribly thin.

Says who?? red lipstick was de rigueur actually until the horrific nude lipstick trend of the 2000's.

Agree with LetThem.
Perhaps OP is using today's standards. In the '20s there was a very limited selection of colors, and red was very much the most common.
