Why the lame title translation?

The original french title of this movie is "Les femmes de l'ombre" which roughly translates to "The women of the shadows".

Why could the English title not be a direct translation, or you could have had "Shadow women" or something like that but "Female agents"? ....... it sounds like a daytime TV reality show.
