saw it tonight at LA Film fest

I really liked the first four parts. loved the first three. but boy the last fifth really stunk. the film was strongest when it was just telling stories that happened before the novel's narrative kicked in.

seems like the film makers created 4/5th of a strong script then just *beep* out the rest with little regard for what they previously created.

the last fifth was jarring in its shift style with historical footage pasted in, horrible song choices and its weak attempt to show the climatic death of Ahab without really showing it. then there was this surreal image of a giant ahab standing on the horizon scooping light from the ocean. and what's with the cgi whale? really bad. the first four fifths was poetic and quite lovely, then they just lost their minds.

the historical footage was interesting. I'd like to see more of it. any one know if i can see more of that somewhere else?
