How prophetic...

Billy Wilder's words of 1988 are in this age of the political science/foreign affairs experts that permeate Hollywood and insist on making movies that no one pays good money to see. Twenty years ago he had such insight and foresight that Clooney, Redford and their ilk will never have. The man knew to keep his politics in his personal life, not his professional one. He may have been liberal, but he never hated those who were conservative. Hollywood types of that era generally tended to rise above the type of toxic diatribe that emanates from America's movie capital today. The man certainly could make an entertaining picture. Boy, do I wish there were more Billy Wilders today.

The great thing about Wilder's political commentary in films like Ninotchka and One, Two, Three is that he criticized both the capitalist and Communist systems instead of just shoving one side at the audience.

That's why you and I don't see eye-to-eye sometimes, Jack; because you're a man of science.
