Mostly Good Movie . . . Some facts missing

I liked most of the movie, I liked that System of a Down is bringing the issue of genocide to the public conscious but they send a garbled message. They vehemently want the US military out of Iraq but out of the other side of their mouth they insist that the US military should go to Darfur to stop the genocide there.

What do they think will happen in Iraq if the US leaves?

Also, they make the claim that the US and UK avoid using the term genocide because it will force them to act to stop it if they do. They are partly right here. Last time I checked there is nothing in the US constitution that states the US military's mission is to stop genocide around the world. The US military exist for the purpose of protecting US national security interests not the world's interests. However there is an organization that was founded whose main reason for existence is to prevent genocides from occurring. That organization is the UN.

It is stated in the UN charter that the UN MUST ACT to prevent all genocides around the world. What did the UN do in 1994 when reports surfaced that there was a human slaughter going on in Rwanda? They passed a resolution specifically preventing using the term "genocide" in order to prevent forcing the UN to act to stop it. A shocking fact omitted from the film in favor of more US and UK bashing.

As an Armenian I am grateful for System's pursuit of stopping the denial of the Armenian Genocide. I just wish they wouldn't confuse their message by turning their film into another Bush-Bash.
