Seems like the tone & budget for Blade:the Series would be ideal for these Netflix series. Don't know why I didn't make that connection when they were first announced. Which also beckons the question: Why did Blade: the Series fail?
Blade: The Series came out when Spike TV wasn't that popular...not many people knew there was a series for Blade because it wasn't advertised well. I always thought if it would have been on FX or even a paid channel like HBO, then it would have been well known and not cancelled.
When Blade got canned, it reminded me of another good show that got cancelled a few years before it called Fastlane..it was on Fox. Goes to show you that all the good tv shows get the boot, Legend of the Seeker is another good one.
No matter if some people liked the show and even thought it was good, there were not enough people who agreed with them to watch. The ratings got worse and worse the first half of the season and then leveled off. Spike TV determined the viewship level after the ratings stabilized was no high enough to renew the series.

I'm rewatching the series now. I'm liking even more this time than my first viewing. Nice mulligan from the crud that was Blade Trinity. Nicely textured without the limitations of a 2-hr feature. Really too bad the show couldn't find a large enough audience. Coulda been the advertising or maybe what was left of the fanbase was still too p.o.'d after Blade 3. I thought the budget size was perfect. Not too fancy but not chintzy feeling either. It would be cool if this could somehow be in the universe of the upcoming Netflix Marvel miniseries, but that would just be wishful thinking I'm sure.
Back in '06, if this was marketed as a limited series in the vein that Daredevil was earlier this year, I wonder how that might have impacted its success.
Hkw great would it be if this show somehow got revived on Netflix to fit into its Defenders universe? Either starring Snipes or Jones. It would never happen, but a fella can still dream.
