With rights comes responisibility

These guys want the equal right to marry, but why would they want it? Shel said that a civil union is not equal to marriage, and that it doesn't allow for property rights, etc. It's like when the feminists were clamoring for equality. That meant all the benefits of equality, but not the downside. It's a case of being careful what you wish for.

Ted said it best when he said that one of the benefits of being gay is never having to think about getting married. In his mind, the right to marry carries with it the pressure to marry, even if one does not wish to do so. The fact that his reluctance caused a rift in their relationship is evidence of this.

Since this movie was made, many states are getting equal marriage rights. However, about fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce, (the figure is about 2/3 in southern California). Wait till these guys start having to pay aholemony, then they'll see if it's such a good idea.
