Wasn't this movie called Save the Last Dance?
Didn't they already do this movie, it starred Julia Stiles? God is hollywood this hard up for ideas.

shareLet's face it, complaining about a dance movie having a clichéd girl-chases-her-dream plot is about as sensible as seeing a Die Hard movie and complaining it's about John McClane fighting terrorists (just to keep this all under the Mary E. Winstead umbrella).
Most dance movie plots are a variation on a core formula. They're not about deep, complex storytelling, they're about fancy choreography. And it's there I expect this movie to deliver. I also expect a great performance from Mary, of course.
I have to agree with both of you - yes, dance movies are all going to be similar, not complex stories etc. (Although that being said, some of the issues dealt with in STLD are pretty intense - teen mother, racism, violence, crime) BUT there are so many similarities in this film it is unreal. I still enjoyed it, mainly for the actual dancing itself but I love a good cheesy movie at the end of the day, even if I did keep going, omg this is soooooooooooooooo like STLD! (And according to the friend I saw it with, coyote ugly, though I haven't seen that to compare for myself)
