Anyone else think it might not have all been a dream? (spoilers)

After reading through a lot of the posts here, I see that the general consensus is that the twisted hospital "reality" is indeed false, and his coma one is true. While this would all make perfect sense, I can't help but shake the feeling that this is one of the movies where the filmmakers left a lot of it open to interpretation. In movies such as these (Jacob's Ladder, Vanilla Sky), it's usually not clear cut in the end, you still have to piece together which parts where real vs. illusion.

I just find it too easy of a way out to say the whole thing was a dream. One line in particular made me really consider this while watching the movie. It was during the final torture scene, when the guy was cutting up his hands/feet with a plier. George was simultaneously aware of both realities, the torturer said something along the lines of "Are you listening? You just caught a little bit of the truth now there boy! Can you hear them? But don't you pay them no mind. Because me and you, we know the real deal. In here." (not a direct quote)

I know it's kinda pushing it, but not entirely impossible. Perhaps the coma reality was nothing but an illusion he made up inside his mind to "escape" or explain some of his current situation. With movies like these it's almost essential to look at it from all angles, and since I haven't seen any discussion around it, I thought I'd start some!

I get what you are saying but I don't think dream is the right word, although I can't offer an alternative. A dream, even a nightmare, is something we consider that happens when we sleep but know we will wake up. They may not even have a name for it, but what a person may or may not experience in the world of being comatose is something other than a dream.
