Does this bother anyone else?

With all the sophisticated ballistics analysis they do in this film that they do in this film. It seems ironic that they ignore the fact that it would be simple determination that the shot came from the church tower, and not the warehouse where Swagger's rifle was found and where he was supposedly shot by Timmons.

Apparently you missed the part where the Memphis asked Alourdes Galindo (female FBI) about the ballistics analysis and she said they were done 10 minutes after the shooting. Memphis then suggests that it was a set up and premade "were not that good at our job" and given to FBI.

reply

I'm not sure how you figure this would be simple. Besides, with the misdirection used, once everyone "knew" where the guy was found, they would stop looking at other options.

Tough to do exact ballistics in a gooey mess. The bullet would leave a big enough hole, that the difference would be hard to detect. Add to that, nobody bothered because they had a policeman's word, he'd seen and shot the shooter, whose rifle et al were left behind.

Had the bullet entered a solid material, tracing back to the point of origin would be much easier.

Unless they had enough juice to squash the actual investigation, it would have been determined things like caliber, direction of shot and even distance from a ballistics investigation and autopsy. It would have become glaringly obvious that Wahlberg couldn't be the shooter. However, they did stop the experienced coroner in Dallas from autopsying JFK and instead flew his body back to Bethesda so "their people", who were very inexperienced, could do the autopsy....so...

I was more annoyed about the calibers being different...

the gun in the church tower was a barrett m82 (it says so on the monitor) which uses a 50 caliber round where swaggers gun was a cheytac intervention which uses the .408 caliber round.

the story says they both fired the same bullet, swaggers gun at the stew and the other at the archbishop.

your right about them knowing it was the church because swagger told them there where several positions or something like that.

reply

I dont know anything about guns, but they did come to the conclusion that paper was used around the bullet the second time it was fired. That would make it "thicker" one might imagine.

reply

Well, it being fired from a .50 supports the paper-patching sabot thing I guess.

What bothers me more is the fact you dont seem to know what the word "ironic" means. There wasnt a hint of irony in anything you said, its alanis morrisette all over again!

I was more curious about the bad guy sniper in the wheelchair getting up into the bell tower.

reply

I'm thinkin' the hunnert foot of cable took care of that.
