Comically small blade inside the foot long crucifix?

As soon as i saw the crucifixes in the opening scene i knew they were some kind of concealed weapon. I waited patiently the entire movie to see exactly what they did. Hoping it would be something unique. Only to find out it has a 3 inch blade... Really, that's it? That crucifix was around a foot long and you could only manage to fit 3 inch's of steel in there? Then on top of that he throws it? Wouldn't that give you a 1 in 4 chance of actually hitting a guy with the blade?

All in all i actually kind of liked the movie, that weapon just seemed weak at best.
