What films did this film rip off?

So far, I'm aware that 'Priest' ripped off quite a lot of films, such as:
Blade Runner (for their motorcycles)
Tron (for their city - although, that's not much of a rip off, I mean how else can a futuristic city look like?)
Jonah Hex (for the animated opening sequence)

But there is apparantly more films that this film copied.

Any ideas? What do you think?

Motorcycles in Blade Runner? Were you smoking crack?

Hey, I read this on Rotten Tomatoes.
And, no. *sniffs breath*.

I don't know if it's a rip off as much as an homage, but the thing that struck me is that the basic plot is The Searchers, right down to concerns that Priest would kill Lucy when he found her, and that she is his daughter, something that's implied but never made explicit in The Searchers.

Spoiler alert:

(what did they say?) "Familiar City. . .you'll never see a more. . .city"
I'm not sure if Lucas borrowed that moment of observation from the Searchers as well.
THX--1138 (confessionals)
Matrix (or something similar): Isolated fortress city--apocalyptic frontier, yet technology evolves.
This movie seem to have a budget, but when they slashed the running time, they could've added a little more dialogue and less mutants butchering chickens.

Blade Runner, Judge Dredd, Lord of the Rings, The Searchers, Star Wars,Matrix, Mad max, Alien,. I mean the scene where he leaves the city and cruises out into the desert on the cycle could've been lifted directly from Attack of the Clones.
Having said that I still thought it was a decent flick, better than it had any right to be.

That's about right.
I saw the Attack of the Clones bit, too.

he also ripped of that idea to shoot a movie with actors in it. what a rip off!

most movies borrow ideas from others...big deal...

I saw a lot of Matrix and some Star Wars.

Dark City... Screamers... A Boy and His Dog... The Book of Eli... Ghosts of Mars... maybe a little Last of the Mohicans...

But I still like it. It worked for me.

Sorry, wrong movie, but they could have tried writing new lines instead of just lifting them straight from The Empire Strikes Back.

Day of the Evil Gun, The Searchers

Found a lot of old wild west themes in here. Just substitute vampires for "indians" and it looked pretty familiar.

I thought this was completely Judge Dredd,,,,like seriously.

Equilibrium.

I think it ripped off Elysium too a little bit. some of the technology was similar

Definitely ripped off the Total Recall remake

some of the fights reminded me of Resident Evil and the vampires looked like Lickers

One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

But it came out before both those movies... silly rabbit.

reply

Yes, Some of the films mentioned came out after this did.

Most obvious for me was Judge Dredd, with aspects of Blade thrown in.

I really enjoyed this for what it was, I can understand some people finding it a bit repetitive or derivative, but I was happy to look past that and enjoy it.
