Did they feed him chocolate?

I feed my dog chocolate all the time. He's a yellow lab as well. Fed my previous black lab chocolate until he died...at age 14. Also fed another dog of mine chocolate until she died at age 20. She was a small little mutt lol!!

See, people hear things like chocolate is toxic to dogs so don't feed it to them. Dogs actually love chocolate. My lab loves chocolate Easter bunnies and Hershey bars and kisses. The fact is, milk chocolate is relatively safe for dogs to eat. It's 1oz per 1 pound of dog. So, I can feed my 105 pound lab 3-5oz of chocolate every once and a while and he's absolutely fine and he's gotten a well deserved treat for being such a good dog!

Think of it like this. All water has trace amounts of arsenic. Arsenic is toxic and deadly but only in large pure doses. Same goes for MILK chocolate and dogs.
The other end of the argument is baking or dark chocolate. Now that I would never feed my dog in it's pure form as it is deadly. And remember...never ever let your dog get into the chocolate Ex-Lax bars. It won't hurt but it will squirt!!!

The article says that it "could" cause digestive problems but then again, so can Taco Bell.

People, people people! Regular Chocolate isn't the problem.

DARK chocolate is! And even so it depends on how many ounces the dog eats versus how many pounds the dog is!!

We learned this in the very early hours of Nov 1 one year. My mom had given the left over snack bars of chocolate and such to dad to hide so that she wouldn't be tempted. He woke her up that night and asked her if she found the candy. She is still in a stupor so he adds... "Did you find the candy and leave the wrappers chewed up on the carpet in the living room???""

It turns out dad had hidden the candy on the bottom rungs underneath an easy chair. Our 12 year old golden retriever had found it during the night and munched away. We called the 24 hour vet service we have and they told us the reality of the chocolate myth with dogs.

No not that I am aware of, but I would think that dogs like Marley can start having stomach problems, even when they start to really get older.

My 14 year old yorkie gets a little chocolate now and then. She loves it and it doesn't cause any problems. By "a little" I mean one Hershey's kiss or a single square from a chocolate bar.
