buddha of suburbia plot rip off

has anyone told Hanif Kureishi that bits of his novel and TV drama has been riped off. even the guys name is the same Amir in this and Karim Amir in buddha of suburbia. I bet is a comedy of errors orchestrated by her traditional parents that's wonderfully out-of-place for the characters who see themselves liberated and part of the US generation Desi. oh the horrors of culture clashes faced by young US generation Desi cultural hybridity aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh save me please. its been done before and a lot better.

that's not what it is. How are you calling the story a rip-off when you don't even know the plot?

reply

I can't figure out what is more stupid - blasting a movie as a ripoff when you haven't seen it, or even know what it's about, or accusing an artist of plagiarizing the work of another with absolutely no basis. The internet is a truly beautiful thing.

FYI- the plot of this film is NOTHING like Buddha of Suburbia. You may want to hold off on judging films until you see them.

Waitaminute -- I'm looking around this website researching movies coming out soon and I read Zorro's "review" to get some more info. . . but this movie hasn't even been released yet, right?

It's pretty amazing that you've got someone posting comments on a movie they haven't seen yet. Man, that pisses me off. Where are these lovely folks coming from? Why do they bother typing something and posting it in a public forum when they know nothing about what they are saying? When did the standards for intelligence and evidence-based argument die?

That's like saying "I've won't see 'Finding Nemo' because it is obviously a rip off of Melville's 'Moby Dick' (because Nemo is primary a character in both) and movies about whales have already been made in the past and done better than this film I have not seen. Aaaargh." Brilliant. My advice, Zorro, is to stfu if you are trying to talk about something you know nothing about, at least as a courtesy to people who are trying to find out real information.

I apologize to anyone who is offended by my longwinded, blatant disregard for the sanctity of Zorro's right to having a dumbass opinion, but I refuse to be silent when faced with such boldfaced stupidity. I'm exercising my equal right (responsibility even) to call anyone out on their stupidity -- I can't stomache this crap any more after 7 years of W's administration, the Simpson sisters/Paris Hilton and all the other idiots who are given a public forum to spew pablum without being called out on their b.s. This is why we have people running for election who publicly admit that they do not believe in the theory of evolution. I say "Aaaarg" to that b.s.

Can anyone who knows what they are talking about tell me if this movie is funny? I'm always on the lookout for a good comedy. . . thanks.

There's no Nemo in Moby Dick!

Sorry if I confused you. I know there's no Nemo in Moby Dick; that was part of my point about people blabbing on about things they know nothing about (note the quotation marks).

Hey Zorro,

You might want to take a look at the AL6000 Max, if/when it ever comes out.

It's a really cool device for your computer. Basically, it's a USB Breathalyzer. It can prevent users like you (and me) from drunk blogging and/or e-mails that will come back to haunt them in the future.

It's my understanding that it is being held from release because the e-commerce industry is trying to prevent it from hitting the market for fear of undermining all the business they get from people shopping online while under the influence.

You can read about it here:

At any rate, your blog was done at nearly 9 PM on a Saturday night and had a bunch of grammatical errors which could point to the fact that you might have been under the influence. I feel for you man. I'm a musician and I drink a LOT. I drunk blog all the time with my exes and believe me....I need to get one of those devices too.
