Action movie?

Is this packed with action.
Or is it like Korean action is sometimes. Youknow 5% of movie is action, and 95% is about talking and moving from a place to another place.

To tell you the truth, I was very excited about seeing this movie and had high expectations for it since it was from the director of "Arahan". I must say though that the movie has left me completely empty after watching it. I really don't understand how a person can go from something like "Arahan" to this. I know that they are 2 very different movies, but City of Violence was HORRIBLE!!! There were only 2 real fight scenes in the whole movie and it's not suffice to say that they make up for the rest of the movie. The trailer is deceiving in that it makes the movie look like pure action when it really isn't. They show a lot of the good parts in the trailer already. Not to mention, there really is no story in the movie. It's a pure Revenge Flick a la Kill Bill and this movie does try to pay a lot of homage to Kill Bill. From the samurai swords and fight in the sushi bar to the musical score that was played in the movie. The movie is created more for character development than anything else and trust me, it kind of fails at this as well because you really don't care much for anyone in the movie except for the two main characters. The villain is annoying as hell. My advice, don't watch this movie with high expectations and you might enjoy it better than I did. Oh yeah, as for the fight scenes, nothing AMAZING or INCREDIBLE. Nothing we haven't seen already. The fight with the Break Dancers was kind of cool but ended too quickly. I found that the fight scenes were also very under-choreographed. If you're looking for a movie with cool fight scenes and a slightly better story, you might want to try "Dragon Tiger Gate" instead of this one. Just my little 5 cent of the pie.

Oh and sorry, to answer your question. I think 70% talking and 30% fighting is about right.

The action is good though and worth the straight forward narrative. in fact, the straight forward narrative complements the action well.

To say the movie pays great homage to Kill Bill is slightly probably completely wrong. I understand what you mean, but one must remember that Kill Bill is a totally influenced by 70's style martial arts films. Equally the director has made this probably through him absorbing such films over many years. I really doubt the director was influenced by Kill Bill. A man with as much experience as him in action/martial arts would hardly have watched Kill Bill and thought "hmmm.. i've never seen that before, let's make a film like that" - if anything that's a little patronising to a director with such experience in this field. What I'm saying is they have been doing stuff like this in the far East for ages, and if anything Kill Bill is influenced by this type of movie... Kill Bill just introduced this type of movie to the west.
It is a lot more straightforward action/martial arts movie, with enough storyline to compliment the action. nothing marvelously original, not a classic, but an enjoyable film. The choreographed scenes with the gang of kids and the scenes at the end were top-class, you won't see many better in film.

Well, I think it kinda depends on what you prefer, I preferred City of Violence to Dragon Tiger Gate. I found the fighting and story more interesting in CoV, and the fighting in Dragon Tiger Gate too unreal, at least the last few fights. Though I have to say, it was also a cool movie.

dragon tiger gate was to much fiction which ruined the fights. But Donnie yen has made better movie like Iron Monkey
