Walking Tall copied this.

was it just me or was Walking Tall totally just an American copy of this movie? i mean, there are a few differences but the main plot and many scenes are almost a total copy.

also, 4 Brothers it would seem took a lot of elements from this movie as well.

It's a genre film.

Whether you look at the old-skool spaghetti westerns, heroic bloodshed flicks, Shaw Brothers, or the rip off (or homage depending on your thoughts on Tarantino) KILL BILL flicks, the themes are typically the same.

John Singleton himself said that FOUR BROTHERS was his western.

If you listen to the music in CITY OF VIOLENCE or KILL BILL, you can see a strong reference to those films that were basically lost in the 70's.

If you like these type of films, you should check out the epic Western ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST or the cool noir POINT BLANK. POINT BLANK was sort of redone as PAYBACK, but if you are going to watch out that flick, I recommend its directors cut, which is pretty easy to find now.

If you just liked the stylized action, I would check out INVISIBLE TARGET, which has alot of cool martial arts and over the top action.

The City of Violence is similar to the movie Juice. The one "weak" friend becomes corrupted by "power" and starts taking out his enemies, and friends when they stand in his way. The flashback at the end of the movie where we see the friend's in their younger years walking alongside each other is almost identical to the scene at the end of Juice.

and Juice felt like a copy of Bullet in the Head by John Woo...

I'm sure we could keep this formula going back for a bit though. : )
