I mean, don't get me wrong, this was a nice little film, but of the 5 nominees this was probably my 4th favorite(!) There must be some goofy politics in the Academy that sway the voting in this category. Just my outside-of-the-industry opinion.
shareCan't disagree -- this was almost like a shaggy dog story in that the film was mostly one long setup for the final brief punch line, and I found the punch line a little too obvious and unsatisfying. I much preferred "Tanghi Argentini;" its O. Henry-esque twist wasn't telegraphed and the storyline was engaging and very sweetly satisfying. Oh, well....
