Japanese Animation Vs. Cinema

I use to watch alot of Japanese animation that would have all them strange characters and thought when they would actually put something like that as a movie feature. For a low budget film Yudai Yamaguchi did an amazing job bringing that kind of style to life, I'll be looking forward to more of his stuff. I think a USA audience would have to know a little bit about Japanese animation to understand why this movie has these type of style characters, but some whom don't know anything will possibly still be intrigued. Since Japanese animation is popular in the USA now, it's most likely alot already know.

Japanese cinema is easily better than Japanese animation. A lot of Japanese anime can be trite and unoriginal. But Japanese cinema, although not very popular in the US, is far better in quality. In my opinion, Japan makes the best and most consistent films out of any country.

Of course, if you're gonna look for cheap horror ringu knock-offs or films like this, then you're looking at the wrong genre of films. If you look at their regular releases, or films that actually gets released in theatres, they rarely make bad movies.

Yes, Japan makes great stuff. Thailand was rockin as well with their "Chocolate", but Japan defintetly knocked it out the park with Tokyo Gore Police and The Machine Girl - South Korea seems to be slowing down - to bad not many are interested in subtitles.

Ahhhhh... i remember the glory days of Japanimation (As it was frequently dubbed back in the early-mid ´90s), when no-one knew what it was, besides a few other freaks you´d run into by accident, few and far between. Movie & music chainstores (Such as the now defunct Musicland) stocked no more than a shelf or so of titles from U.S. Manga Corps, A.D. Vision, U.S. Renditions, Streamline Pictures, Animeigo, etc. Those vidoes were treasures, and the Japanimation cult was small, dedicated and true. As far as I´m concnered, the genre is dead now - but i just might give this movie a chance. Maybe... but most likely, I´ll watch something nastier from Italy, made in the ´70s. =D
