Anybody see this?

Anyone?

heh. i'm a little late, but i saw it at the philly film fest.
it was pretty good, had some brilliant gore moments, but the thing that sort of ruined it for me is the film fest itself was hyping it as being better than "Tetsuo Iron Man" by Shinya Tsukamoto, and hailing it as more gory and twisted than anything by Takashi Miike or Tsukamoto, which it really wasn't.

if you saw it without coming in with that expectation, then i am sure you would find it totally awesome...

it does have one really sweet eye scene that totally tricks the audience out though...

"Our love will rust the world into the dust of the universe..."

I had no expectations. So I loved it. Much better than it's rating would suggest in my opinion. Although you have to have a liking for this sort of madness to begin with probably. Also you have to take it with a particular level of seriousness. It's ridiculous, but has some interesting themes.

its like watching a GWAR concert but with a story!!!

reply

yea, the best way i could describe this movie is power rangers meet gwar (who usually did have a story running through their concerts). lots of blood and violence but the costumes are a bit cheesy and reminded me of the cheap costumes from power rangers. i also could've done without all the shots of the little parasite guy...we get it, the parasite is controlling the persons movements, there was no need to show it every 15 seconds. i really wanted to like this movie but just couldn't buy into it.

Absolutely bonkers bit of OTT sci-fi gore fest - well reccomended!

Rented it from Holywood video. You guys will also be like The Machine Girl which was a better flick.

reply

Haha, i watched this film after someone recommended this in the Machine Girl thread. Pretty good film actually. The special effects are quite good in some parts, but looks very low budget overall. But still recommended for fans of over the top gore and violence genre.

reply

Thank God for filmmakers who still use practical gore effects. This movie was a treat.

Although I think I liked the DVD extra Meatball Machine: Reject of Death more than the movie itself, ha ha. Ten minutes of awesome. Nearly everything I need in a movie: Hot Asian chicks, bare titties, lots of bloodspray, gore, weird spiderly/tentacly creatures (like The Thing), practical effects, gay guys, misshapen-headed black dude eating lobster, nipples that kill and/or do strange things that nipples don't normally do, heavy metal, fleshy cybernetic stuff, decapitations, faces being peeled back exposing the skull, phallic imagery, and so on.

But yes, The Machine Girl also rules, and I'm anxiously awaiting Tokyo Gore Police, which looks downright stellar.

However, anyone heralding Meatball Machine as better than Tetsuo: The Iron Man is utterly ridiculous. In my mind, no cult Japanese horror/gore flick can top that one. It's far too enjoyable and artistic to ever be beat, and knowing that it's mostly the creation of one man makes it an even greater feat.

reply

Yes I think Reject of Death is much better than the full length movie. However, I prefer MBM over Tetsuo.

...a little fantastic, and fleeting, and out of reach.

reply

I love Tetsuo and the like, but I thought this was boring and made very little sense. I hated Machine Girl, and I haven't seen Tokyo Gore Police yet.

For out-and-out weirdness, and disgusting FX, Pinocchio 964 is hard to beat!

grumble, moan, whinge etc.

I thought the exact same thing as dirty_tony_de_la_nomad_mc. It's JUST like a GWAR concert. Ludicrous amounts of violence, practical effects involving machines and suits that look just like the props they use. There's even a scene where a kid gets killed for absolutely no reason, aside from humor.

The story and effects are ridiculous and the gore is nonstop. It was highly entertaining.

My boyfriend and I just watched it this weekend. We both felt it had so much potential! It was missing a dash of salt or something. We also both hated the male love-interest; loathed him. Sometimes it is great to hate the "hero", but again, missing something, because it was not a fulfilling emotional reaction to him. So, it was fun enough to finish, but...
