Tes comments est très intéressant.
I agree and take consideration with a lot of the above comments.
Personally, this was my favorite Arcand film that I've seen to date. I feel that it spoke to me more so than his other films. Not only can I relate to many feelings of our protagonist, Jean-Marc, but it is an experience that was very clear and I believe, pertinent to everyday life, especially these days.
Yes, I noticed some parallels with American Beauty: 1) the shower scene at the beginning, 2) the fact that his wife is a real estate agent, 3) the fact that Jean-Marc is increasingly disenchanted with his job and life in general.
However, the difference of 'Days of Darkness' is that it was essentially about Jean-Marc and visions into his surreal world that enables him to survive his real, mundane world.
By him walking away, literally, from his wife and family at the end was his last straw; his dismantling of everything that was bogging him down. As satirical as it is, you have to accept this situation. In reality, the outcome is not so farfetched. It is logical. Some people can only tolerate so much disappointment even though they did what they could to prevent it.
His madness and familial torture could have brought him to kill his wife, as he even mentioned to her.
At the end of the day, you need to take a step back and re-evaluate what you must do in the best interests of the ones you love and yourself.
You have to let go of your burdens and free yourself, so to speak.
8.5/10!!
Bravo, Denys Arcand!!
P.S. THANK GOD, SOMEBODY FINALLY POINTED OUT IN A FILM HOW OVERBOARD WE HUMANS ARE WITH TECHNOLOGY..i.e. CELLPHONES!!! AND BLUETOOTHS!! AND THE FACT THAT WE CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT HAVING A CELLPHONE OR BLUETOOTH OR BLACKBERRY PRESSED AGAINST OUR EAR FOR ANY MINUTE OF THE DAY! IT REALLY IS PATHETIC.
THANK YOU DENYS FOR INCORPORATING THIS TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
