Nicole Buffet

Did anyone else feel so sad for Nicole Buffet in the film? She had really nice, charming and refreshing things to say. I felt myself tearing up when her Grandfather came down so hard on her. And over WHAT?

reply

Just goes to show what a hypocrite Buffet is. She's better off.

reply

Er...

She could have just called her grandpa and asked for what's off limits because she doesn't grasp the complexities.

I'm against the 1%. But Buffet is fueling all his wealth back to the society. If Buffet had given his wealth to his grandkids, he would be continuing that trend of 1% holding ownership to infrastructure, services, and businesses that we work for, and at the same time, pay for. While the 1% holds ownership and takes most monetary gains. He is breaking that tradition. And if you had been keeping track, you would know Buffet is on our side.

Buffet believes wealth should not be determined by where one is born into. And since her granddaughter is not knowledgable on what her grandpa's view of global economics is, and how he planned on helping, she has no right to comment on a film that address his wealth.

She didn't say anything. But Buffet didn't know. All he knew, was she, who's probably not in contact with him, spoke in public on a subject that would be directed towards him, not her.

reply

I can see Warren Buffett's position. She is not a blood relative and was adopted by one of his sons when he was married to a woman he was with for 10 years. It is not her place to speak for, or about, the family in a movie that negatively views everything Warren has worked towards his entire life. It was disrespectful.

reply

To someone who values money over a flesh and blood grand daughter (even if she is adopted), then yeah she being disrespectful. To most people, he is being an ass.

reply

Buffet doesn't value money over his grandkids. He didn't disown her so he didn't have to pay child support.

Think of Buffet's wealth, not as wealth, but political power. Passing his wealth down, would be the same as having a political family where each subsequent descendant gets elected into The White House. With none of the descendants having any interests in leadership. Buffet does not want that.

People complaining about 1% are confused how our current system can allow the Wal-Mart descendants family of 4 to own as much wealth as the total of bottom 40% of America's wealth. Buffet, by not giving his wealth to his kids and grandkids, is, going against the 1% mentality and trend. His wealth will be redistributed back into the society via Gates Foundation because he believes it was the society that helped create his wealth, not his family. And those, will help give a boost to regions with economic growth problems, which, in turn will also boost our standards of living. What do you think his grandkids would do if those wealth goes to them? Which, is exactly the problem.

If, Buffet drives a Ferrari, while refusing to help Nicole with her student loan, then, that's different. But Buffet rarely indulge in luxuries himself. If, Nicole had sent him one of her painting, and he threw it away, judging it has no investment value, then, it would be a different thing. But it's just a kid speaking in public that's addressing him. And the responses here pretty much showed why Buffet didn't want to bother with these types of stuff.

reply

Long time for a response but I pretty much agree with what you wrote. He is not interested in contributing to a plutocracy, from what I understand about him. If I am wrong, correct me.

reply

Sorry but unless she committed murder, she doesn't deserve to be kicked out of the family for stating her opinion on film

Chances are I'll forget all about this post and this thread by later tonight.

Buffett is literally insane. He is 80 with $50 billion and spends his remaining days worrying about the profitability of frozen pizza so that he can squeeze more money out of losses from the middle-class's retirement investments. He has such a God-complex that he can't even admit to having relatives, because God is singular and all-mighty.

reply

I didn't feel sorry for her at all to be honest.

reply

"The Warren Buffet granddaughter is a whiny bitch. Not only did Buffet adopt her into his family and embrace her as his own, he paid pretty much all the expenses to raise her and send her to college. His one main familial rule is that nobody discusses family business with the media. She proceeds to appear in this documentary, and is surprised when he's upset? Sure, maybe his letter was harshly worded, but for *beep*'s sake, he's done how much for her, and this is how she repays him?"

So just because somebody is adopted into a family and raised well means that they have to be a total robot in return? You're a waste of human space if you have that kind of mentality.

I'd rather be nothing...-Bishop-

She's an apostate who committed the ultimate sin against her own rich relatives - giving the finger to their God of Mammon.

Where I'm from, you don't go against your family like that and definitely not in public. When she started calling Warren out, saying that he is totally different than what he shows the public, I felt that was unnecessary. She didn't have to go there and that shows no loyalty to your own grandfather.

reply

(in response to arikajohnson) She only said that after he disowned her. The worst thing she said before that is "money is the spoke in his wheel," which is hard to argue with, given that he works professionally in finance. Why do you expect her to be loyal to someone who has cast her off?

The "you don't go against your family" rule is from the Mafia. The whole point of the movie is that this "don't talk" attitude is part of what keeps the U.S. wealthy insular and isolated from the problems of mainstream society.

Let me know when Nicole Buffet has given one hundredth what Warren Buffet has to charity. Nevermind that number, one thousandth.

reply

She barely said anything. She didn't even say anything really bad. She just talked about herself and her art and a bit about the family. None of it was really bad. WTF

So I have learned two things about Warren Buffet.

1. He is a complete dick.
2. He has some sort of prescience. Seriously, how did he know that this granddaughter that he supposedly does not care about was partaking in some documentary that he also did not seem to care that much about. He must have spies everywhere.

reply

She betrayed the people who raised her and gave her everything - she's a rat and deserved to be disowned.
