director in hiding?

i just saw a UK screening of Dog Bite Dog at the Tiger festival, and before the film an organiser mentioned that they wanted to bring the director over but 'as many of you know he is laying low at the moment'. Anyone has any idea of what happened? Was the film in fact autobiographical and now he is hiding from the mafia/police??
