situation in Cambodia

Hey, I just wanted to know if the depiction of children fighting for money in underground "clubs" was actually real, or if it was invented for the sake of the movie... ?

If it is real, then is there some kind of documentation about it, or another film that treats the subject? I'd really like to know more about it.
