One of the few movies I stopped watching in the middle

It doesn't happen to me a lot, but rarely I just can't finish the movie. Because I suddenly realize that even cutting my nails will be more interesting than watching this crap.

And Dog Bites Dog is example for that. I am a cynical person, it is tough for me to see melodramatic manipulations on the screen. Some filmmakers go too far when trying to wake up some cheap emotions in the viewer.

Dog Bites Dog feels like a fake. A banal story that displays situations that sentimental people will drop some tears on, and some beautiful thoughts will cross their minds on how cruel the world is and how it is our duty to do something. After the movie these people will wipe out the tears and go shopping or something, and the next day they will forget all about it.

There is nothing in this story to challenge the mind, this is a movie "for the heart". Not rough, not hard, not unique. Slow, sentimental and manipulative on the lowest emotional level.

Add to this ridiculous story, so usual for HK cinema, dumb characters that you cannot see the reason behind their actions and dialogs that can make you miss silent movies. What do you get? A real champ, indeed.

The production value is ok, the camera work is not bad either. That is it.

Just my 5 cents.

You're an idiot.

How very original. Allow me to reply:

No, your are an idiot.

Hmm... that's fun, lets do it again sometime.

Are you gonna eat that?

reply

Nope, judging from ncstraughn's posts he's not just an idiot, he's also another troll.

Not to be OT.
I liked this movie, although it was very pesimistic. Maybe for the action and the roughness.

I agree. I tried to make it through, I really did, but I just couldn't stand this movie. I also found the lighting to be horrific.

I agree completely with your comment. The story was OK, but the acting was very cheesy, not believable. The way the actors moved around was so fake, that spoiled the movie for me. Anyway, I think the plot wasn't bad.

reply

I'll bet John Wasters liked it.

I was pretty impressed with the movie... i thought it was gonna suck but its a lot better than i thought....

did you really needed a 30min explanation about the cambodian training to understand the movie?
