One of the few movies I stopped watching in the middle
It doesn't happen to me a lot, but rarely I just can't finish the movie. Because I suddenly realize that even cutting my nails will be more interesting than watching this crap.
And Dog Bites Dog is example for that. I am a cynical person, it is tough for me to see melodramatic manipulations on the screen. Some filmmakers go too far when trying to wake up some cheap emotions in the viewer.
Dog Bites Dog feels like a fake. A banal story that displays situations that sentimental people will drop some tears on, and some beautiful thoughts will cross their minds on how cruel the world is and how it is our duty to do something. After the movie these people will wipe out the tears and go shopping or something, and the next day they will forget all about it.
There is nothing in this story to challenge the mind, this is a movie "for the heart". Not rough, not hard, not unique. Slow, sentimental and manipulative on the lowest emotional level.
Add to this ridiculous story, so usual for HK cinema, dumb characters that you cannot see the reason behind their actions and dialogs that can make you miss silent movies. What do you get? A real champ, indeed.
The production value is ok, the camera work is not bad either. That is it.
Just my 5 cents.
