Babysitter Wanted... House of the Devil.... hmm.....

The exact same premise. The exact same story. WTF!!!!!!!!!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172994/ Okay, I saw house of the devil at tribeca and yes it does have a difference due to the DEVIL thing in it, however, chicks gets a babysitting job, stalkers, blah blah, it's funny how they use "BABYSITTER WANTED" in HOTD, but in all worthiness House Of The Devil is way better than babysitter wanted, in my opinion it has that classic 80'S feel, made me feel like a teen again, even the music was classic, but it's so funny how they have the same premise, sorta same plot, and the words "Babysitter Wanted" is in HOTD.

Please when HOTD is released... SEE IT! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN! THIS IS NEW/TRUE TERROR AT IT'S BEST! BW was alright. BUT HOTD...
F*KIN AMAZING!

Babysitter Wanted was made way before HOTD, so wonder who copied who here...And HOTD only had about $10million more for their budget, so yeah, I'm sure they were able to do a lot more then these folks...I still though BSW was a really good film and look forward to seeing the copycat movie.

I could easily argue this with "When A Stranger Calls"
The newest one was 2yrs before this movie & the original is from 1979.
Then there is 1971's "Fright" an im rather sure there are a ton of others movies before that with the same storyline..girl takes babysitting job & guy terrorizes house.

So saying that saying "House of The Devil" copied "Babysitter Wanted" is rather stupid to say or saying that you're looking forward to seeing the copycat of this movie isn't too intelligent either, because they're not the originals & they wont be the last nor even close to the last, because somewhere there is probably at least 1 movie made with the same storyline each & every year. Filmmakers have nothing new to use anymore. Everybody complains saying "Oh, it's a copycat of this" or "We want something new & original..not the same old movie" Well guess what people..YOU'RE NOT GETTING IT! There wont be anything new..there wont be anything original. That is why there are all these remakes, comic book movies, game movies, etc. It's all been done. In 20yrs or so maybe less..maybe more we'll have remakes..of the remakes an then remakes of the remakes of remakes..so on & so forth.

I'm done ranting.

"House of the Devil" is way better than this one.

And i agree with njag07. It's all been done before.

Very similar, but HOTD was better.

There was a weird Italian movie horror/softcore porn flick back in the early 80's (called "The Babysitter-Being Captured") where a babysitter is lured to a house and her charge turns out to be a sadistic, sexually demented dwarf who tortures her the rest of the movie. I suppose you could say BOTH of these movies ripped off THAT, but it's unlikely since you can't even find it in English.

My point is people worry way too much about whether something is totally original when almost nothing really ever is. Even William Shakespeare didn't make up the original story to ANY of his plays. It's really all in the execution. Besides, I think this story is an urban legend that's been going around lately, so neither movie really "stole" it from the other.

I actually liked both of these movies. This one was more of modern-day "torture porn" thing while "House of the Devil" was a throw-back to the 70's and 80's satanic movies. I'm sure the Italian dwarf S-and-M movie is pretty good too (I've actually seen some of the director's other work), so if anyone has a lead on and English-language version of it . . .

Hi lazarillo: Do you believe in the theory that originality is dead?

Just wondering - I agree with your 100% on your comments. :-)

Exactly. They're both supposed to be throwbacks to the 80s 'babysitter getting killed' movies. To say one ripped off the other makes no sense, since they're both trying to be copies of something already.

For the record, I enjoyed this a lot more than house of the devil. HotD had too much buildup with no real climax, just some random cult crap throw at you, then credits. This was a fun movie with tongue planted firmly in cheek, whereas I thought HotD took itself a bit too seriously. Also HotD has no tension at the end, since the devil baby plays by human rules (they said it'll be born in 9 months like a regular baby), she could just have it aborted ANY TIME before then and be good to go...right?

HotD nailed the 80s atmosphere much better though. The music, the zooms, the lighting, it was all perfectly imitated. Unfortunately, it did nothing with it and was a waste of time in the end. As I said, this at least kept a quick pace and kept it more fun than serious... my opinion on the matter for what it's worth.

Both films have almost the exact same plot: babysitter is down on her luck, takes a gig out of desperation, the baby's parents turn out to be Satan.

There aren't too many movies with that specific plotline, as basic as it may be.

The 80s films that they're "throwing back to", however, don't have that same plot.

So...I call bulls__t. The House of the Devil ripped this movie off, plain and simple.

I prefer BSW. Way more entertaining and suspenseful than West's mediocrity.

I too prefer Babysitter wanted not only it can be said original also it was a better thriller than HOTD. HOTD had good and slow build up but sucked at the end meeting real stupid actions by protagonist. BSW kept its same tone in overall film.

HOTD 5/10
BSW 6/10
